Do Cotons do better with another Coton?

Just to bring you up to date, Bijou has had more tests done. He has elevated bile acids meaning he can't process his proteins as well as he needs to. We did an ultrasound, no signs of liver shunt, and did a cortisol blood test to rule out Addison's disease. So now they want to do a biopsy on his liver and intestines. I am going to wait a month and redo the bile acid test to see if it comes down on its own.

I am thinking a of getting another puppy Coton. I am fine with just him, but I think he would really love to have someone he can play and run with. When we got him I had a Samoyed. We just lost him 3 weeks ago and now Bijou seems to be unsettled. There is a nervous behavior to him. He is always on guard so to speak. So I'm thinking he needs another little buddy. Sometimes he just seems sad. Has anyone gone from one to adding another? I am curious how that all played out for people and their dog. My Bijou is now 8 months. Thanks for any of your feedback, it's greatly appreciated. Deb

2 Cotons NEW
by: Ron

At the age of 6 our female (Abby) began to show major signs of separation anxiety when my wife's and my work schedules changed. We finally decided to bring home a female Coton pup in hopes that they would bond. After a few weeks of snubbing by Abby the "two sister" eventually began to settle in with one another.

The two couldn't be more different in personality. Abby is the mature older sister who is extremely bright while Sophie (now two and a half) is about as bright as a small appliance bulb. We call her "our supermodel" dog. She's happy, full of fun and adorable. There's just not much going on upstairs. Still, they're always together, wrestling, hanging out, or fighting for domination of the special spot on the chair by Mom. I'm absolutely glad that we expanded the family.

Most definitely NEW

I thought about getting another Coton five months ago and after asking the breeder if I could bring the puppy to my house to make sure my Coton got along she let me. For me a puppy wasn't the way to go at the time. But for the last month, I really thought about getting a slightly younger Coton then the one I have. Well, last week I picked up a male that is one month younger. My original Coton is a female and the Alfa dog but the baby submitted and is getting along. So I can honestly say a Coton gets along with another. Just be sure to show them both love. Good luck with your decision

I think if you are ready and able to get another dog it would be great for Bijou. My coton was two when I felt she needed a playmate. We got a rescue with a lot of issues but once they were resolved the two are just great companions. It was a great decision and love the fact they are so close.

Sure hope your Bijou recovers soon. Good luck to you with him and also your new addition if you chose to get one. It is double expense and work but I do not regret it at all.

I think once he adjusts to ur other being gone he will be fine but I do know that if lose another pet in the house their is a bond & u can see it in their eyes the sadness.

If at this time in ur life u feel u r ready for another pet then go for it. Just do it for u not them because of course it wil be more work.

Good luck. Let us know what u decide
