Can Dogs Eat Apples?

by Lana
(NYC)

I had this question for quite some time, because my Cotons are crazy about apples. Today I found an answer & would like to share it with all of you (read article below):

PS
I found great apple treats for my dogs, I learned that too much fresh apple a day can cause upset tummy. Isles of Dogs "Smile" - 100% natural Apple treats.

Food NEW
by: Anonymous

My two Cotons are siblings and 1 1/2 years old. They've been on several grain free diets. The only one they've tolerated well is Royal Canin gastrointestinal high energy canned food. And the only treats they LOVE and can tolerate are Honey Nut Cheerios. Occasionally they tolerate a small piece of mild cheddar cheese. And they love blueberries (3-4) each twice a week.

When they feel I'm stressed or anxious, they either don't eat or their stomach gets upset. For awhile we've had to give them Metrodynizole twice a day to stabilize their digestive systems. I've checked with the breeder and none of the other litter mates have an issue.

Hope this helps!

cotons and apples
by: sherry-cotton-candie

Cotton is a very very picky eater. She will on occasion eat a bite or two of apple but only if it is peeled and cut up in really tiny pieces. Same with peaches but let her see bing cherries and she goes nuts. I have to make about 4 bites out of them for her and of course take the seed out, my fingers are stained for days after that but she really loves them. I give her 10 at a time and she always wants more. Do not know how many is really safe.

She still likes her carrots and brocolli but now wants them in her kong toys so she can play with them. Most of her food must be scattered all over the floor as she does not like eating out of her dish. What a quirky little girl she is, she also loves vinegar and salt potato chips.

Tuffy the melon picker
by: Iris Miller

My Coton Tuffy does not care for apples or carrots, but he loves melon. Not any melon, but only the ripest, sweetest, juiciest melons. Watermelon being his favorite. Tuffy is so fussy, if he turns his nose up at food, I have to think twice before eating it myself. He is a big sugarholic and the words that really spark his attention are "cake" and "cookies".

An apple a day....
by: Anonymous

Yes, it is reassuring to know this. With all of the recalls going on with dogfood and dog treats, I always feel safer giving my pets organic produce like apples and carrots.
