Grass is a good source of Protein, Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, C, K, loads of Vitamin E oils (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin B's Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin(B3), Pantothenic Acid (B5), Pyridoxine (B6) and minerals Potassium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Selenium.
Your pet may have a nutrient defencency in his diet, supplementing it by eating grass perhaps?
Grass and dandelions are NOT toxic of the 998 toxic plants listed for dogs (https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants).
Cows that graze on fresh pasture of grass and dandelions offer nutritious milk, natural yellowish nutritious butter, rich cheeses and tasty beef. Chickens that graze on fresh grass and dandelions offer nutritious orange-colored egg yokes.
Dandelions, found naturally in grass pastures, are rich in minerals Magnesium, Phosphorus, Copper, Calcium, Iron, Potassium and Manganese. Vitamin rich in A, C, B1, B2, B6, B9, E and K.
Pesticides or herbicides to ride dandelions used on city park grasses or sidewalk grasses can be toxic. Animal urine on Park grasses may be toxic too. Pasture grass is natural and fresh. Your puppy may not know the difference.
Grass in sandy soil may be filled with Ticks. Flea & tick control commercial products are toxic chemicals too - imidacloprid, fipronil, permethrin, methoprene, and pyriproxyfen, a chemical pesticide. These chemicals kill flea & ticks by jamming communications between nerve cells in insects. Also jamming puppy's nerve cells, too.
However, in home gardens, certain garden herbs rid fleas and ticks from grasses simply by scent. Plant lots of herbs around your grass area gardens.
CoCo is outside most of the time. He loves to help mommy garden. The first year I saw the "ticks" jump from the grass on to him when he was just 10 weeks old. I applied lavendar and the ticks quit jumping on CoCo. For flea & tick control for CoCo I make flea & tick solution with natural and pure essential oils of lavender or lemon grass (I rotate). Just a drop blended in a tablespoon of Jojoba oil, applied very lightly to the hair where fleas/ticks may gather.
Lavender, Lemon Grass, Peppermint, Sage are all safe plants for pets, herbs grown in our gardens, good in areas where CoCo plays, or spends time when outside, as these herb plants repel fleas in the garden naturally. I also may take dried or fresh herb leaves and sprinkle them on carpets (under furniture) and bedding (herbs in cheese cloth packets). Lemon Grass, across entryways into the home, keeps fleas from entering. Also keeps mice and ants out! I add 30 drops of essential oil Lemon Grass to hot water in a 4 ounce spray-mister bottle and spray doorways, carpets, baseboards, blankets and cloth furniture too.
Fleas, ticks, ants, mice, mosquitoes can not tolerate the odor scent of these garden herb plants, their leaves or their essential oil products. Fleas, ticks, ants and mice just change course, automatically!
When I first apply the Lemon Grass spray-mist inside I ensure CoCo is outside, as his sense of scent, is sensitive too. I use just one drop per teaspoon Jojoba oil when preparing Jojoba flea oil for CoCo's hair. He loves the Lemon Grass the best. It is a mood elevator. The lavender is a sedative, great for bedding. CoCo isn't fussy on that scent, I use very little, one drop, and add a drop of sweet orange. Before using lavender leaves, essential oil or spray-mist, ensure to check with your puppy first! HERB Essential Oils are strong, a little is a lot!
Does it work? Magnificently!
Repel fleas by diet? —B vitamins rid fleas! B vitamins are abundant in grass, cows milk and butter, beef, go figure. Do dogs eat grass for the B vitamins to rid fleas? Or the for the Vitamin E Oil for constipation? Or for mineral deficiency? Is puppy food with dead dried meat with toxic preservatives? Or fresh beef?
Grass, while very nutrient rich, contain large amounts of cellulose in their cell walls. Humans, and puppy's, cannot digest this compound because we lack the enzyme cellulase which breaks down the cellulose molecule. That's why our best avenue to these rich sources of nutrients is milk, butter, cheeses, sour cream, yogurt and fresh meats. Cows, sheep, goats have special fermentation chambers where certain bacteria live. These bacteria have the enzyme cellulase.
As humans and puppy's we're better off to eat natural grazing cows meat (beef), use its rich butter and drink its whole milk to gain grass rich nutrients. Dandelion is a bonus in pasture fed animals. Heating milk breaks down lactose. CoCo likes his warm milk with Rye Crust for early breakfast. Butter sautéed fried rice with soft scrambled egg for lunch. Young green runner-beans, Apples and cheese for snacks. Yams with grilled olive oil chicken breast, steak, hamburger, meatloaf or roast with potatoes or corn for dinner.
CoCo eats no grass but loves to play and roll in the grass gardens. We use no weed killer. If he nipples at a dandelion its healthy.

Because she or he is a puppy! They tend to try and eat everything.
Nearly three years ago we lost our little Coton named Keeva. She had kept us on our toes for 10 years. My husband and I, in our 70’s, were devastated and
Louie is just over 3 months old. When I get him outside for a walk and to get him potty trained, he tends to pick things up to chew. Because he's so close
