dog won't eat dog food NEW
by: sharon

the reason your coton won't eat dog food is because a fresh food diet is the way to go. read Dr. Karen Becker's book it is an eye opener. It is quite scary what goes into dog food. keeping a dog on dry food is just unhealthy. You can log into her web site also . my coton is 2 1/2 years old and has never had a health issue. I fed him organic chicken , fresh wild caught salmon, turkey, lamb and veggies. loves berries also. keep in mind before you feed a fresh food diet there are certain things your dog shouldn't eat. raisins, onions, there's a list. Good Luck!!!

eating problems
by: Anonymous/joyce

Well...after trying so many dry and wet foods (Blue & Wellness and others)with no success I am now cooking organic meat or chicken to mix in with the dry food and Pierre will eat it. I also will coat the dry with Greek Yogurt sometimes and he will eat that too. He likes raw carrots and apple and squash too.
We have a few dog friendly eating places here. We took him to Lazy Dog. Pretty good. They even had a dog menu of either chicken or beef patty with brown rice. He loved it.

what to feed coton
by: sherry cotton candie

I also have very very picky eaters. I still by blue grain free for their dry food and have found that when i sprinkle it around on the floor they will snack on it. makes a messy looking floor but it works. does not stain carpet and is a relief to me as it is great food.....I also buy the pet select tube food and candie likes it. cotton still is the picky queen. neither one will eat out of a bowl, they like flat plates or bare floor. cannot figure that one out, lol.

was at pet supermarket today and bought raw instinct for the first time and when got home they begged for more. hope this will continue but think it is just because it is different. what i have read sounds good but time will tell.

i have tried so many foods. fromm also is good but mine will not eat it either. putting spoons of whatever on top does not work for these girls. they eat what they want and spit out anything else.

gotta love these little creatures, they are trouble but worth every second of it.

good luck to you -- i have tried letting them go hungry but cotton will actually vomit yellow stuff-cannot ever let her do that again.

what to feed
by: Vicky & Jonah

I guess I'm old fashion & all my dogs have lived long lives. I use Purina One Smartblend Small bites now. I have used Science Diet for my Silkys. Both good foods also Blue is good.

Here's the old fashion part. I have always put a little chicken, tuna, turkey sometimes grd Chuck, grd round etc. Now I do not buy it special for him if I make a tuna fish sandwich I will save him a teaspoon full to put on food when time to eat.

Now I will boil a little piece or grill without spices CHICKEN. I will make a very small let's say soupspoon size burger.

No ham, pork, grapes, raisins but raw or cooked carrots, Apple, yams, strawberries won't hurt them.

You can find approved lists on line if u use Twitter try @dogsgossip. They also have receipe for cookies, how to brush teeth videos lots of . Interesting info.

If busy I will put a teaspoon of wet Purina One or mighty dog the only thing w/that is I feed Jonah twice a day 1/2 cups at a time. He is not fat but med size Coton 18#'s. I end up throwing wet out a lot b/c he gets teaspoons worth on his dry.

I consider people food for dogs mashed potatoes, stuffing not a small pc of chicken. If u think of it this way a lot of ppl make homemade dog food. To much work for me but a little tuna is good for coat. I like in water but if u like it in oil it won't hurt it dog. Just a dab will do u.

I cannot remember how old u said ur pup was but don't b 2 quick to take them off puppy food if their in that age group. It's good for growing bones.

Again he eats why we eat except I'll boil, grill a little for him no fried put a little grd Turkey or beef burger is fine spray pan w/canned spray just as u probably would for yourself.

Sorry so long. Good luck. You'll be fine.

Dog food

Stella and Chewy is excellent. You will get much debate about raw dog food. Please church out the Primal website. Mine as been on Primal 8 months. The eye staining was gone in one day. All food is tested and inspecting before it is ever sent out. Yes, the food is more expensive but I will not put mine on a dry food again. The food has also helped with the anal plaining. P.S. Eye staining is caused by bacteria.

Picky eater
by: Anonymous

My dog started on Science Diet small bites as a puppy. I was researching different foods and sound that Science Diet was not rated high for nutritional value. I found this website that rated wet and dry foods. www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods

One day I was shopping and the clerk asked if I heard of raw food, and recommended Stella and Chewy. So after wasting a lot of time and money on various foods, I tried the freeze dried version. My dog loves this food and has been eating it for about a year and a half. Although it is expensive I am happy to know that she is getting a nutritionally complete meal.

Good luck with your picky eater.

Ps check labels on all treats and foods, and make sure it is not made in China. A great treat is Kona's Chips, made in the USA

smart dog
by: susan

I know it's hard to stop, but if you keep feeding people food your dog will never willingly choose dry dog food. It may take a couple of days, but your dog will eventually start eating the dog food. Save people food for special treats instead of replacement for meal time. good luck!

Feeding Coton
by: Anonymous

I feed my Coton Blue. It took a while but what I did was mix a little bit of poached chicken & rice in with it and gradually eliminated them. She eats it right up now. Sometimes I spoil her and sprinkle a little grated cheese over it.
