I have an 11 year old Coton, Amazing Grace. When I walk her I use a harness I got in Petsmart. I take it off as soon as we get back, otherwise she gets matted under her front legs. She also wears a collar all the time with her tags. The only one that has ever worked to not mat her hair is a leather rounded collar.
I don't recall where I bought it, but highly recommend trying to get one.

Thanks to all of you! That's what I'll get. We just got him yesterday and the breeder sent him home with a nylon collar. I like y'alls idea much better. Thanks again.

I love the recommendations given for what type of harness to buy. Does anyone have a brand recommendation? I'm finding the store selections to be overwhelming~ there are soooo many! Thanks all!

I also use the harness type from Walmart cost is around $10.00. My vet said not to use a regular collar because you can crush their larynx. If it doesn’t fit you can bring it back.

My Coton puppy is only 7 lbs. The only type of collar I use on her is a harness type. Putting a regular collar around her neck isn't ideal because of how small she is. The harness type collar is perfect because she slides her feet in and I secure the latch on top of her back and hook the lease to it. I purchase it from Walmart. It can actually be purchased at any store-grocery store, Walmart, Target, pet store, etc.
