Sushi

by Connie Crosby
(Pensacola, Florida)

She was the love of my life - a beautiful, dominant, female who was very smart and very loving. We were joined at the hip. She went to work with me everyday and customers and clients just loved to see her. She greeted all who came to my shop. She was just 7 years old last December when I had to put her down for renal failure four days after Christmas. Her life was too short for all the love and affection she had to give.

She was my first Coton and I would never have another breed because they are so wonderful and special.

My brother gave me my first male dog for my birthday in January. His name is Bently Westbury Crosby (aka) Westy. He is his own little man - Happy, happy, happy and busy, busy, busy. He loves everyone and is full of kisses. Sushi would have adored him. He is not taking
her place, but making his own place in my heart.

He was purchased through Cowboy Cotons in Florida and I would highly recommend this breeder. Westy is perfect in his confirmation, his coat, his intelligence and attitude. He is a very healthy little boy dog.

The Best Dog of All

Loving and loyal,
A friend through and through,
How in the world can I
live life without you?

I've known you since you
Were just a scrappy little pup.
Fighting to survive,
And you never gave up.

I watched you grow into a
beautiful canine friend.
Back in those days,
I could not imagine this end.

But now it is all over,
And you're truly gone.
Somehow I'll find a way
To try to carry on.

Perhaps one day I'll find
A new puppy who,
Will become my dear friend,
But he will never replace you.

I'll keep your little photo
hung up on my wall,
And I'll always remember you
As the very best dog of all.

I feel this way for all the wonderful dogs that have blessed my life. Enjoy ur new puppy. May he bring new love and smiles to ur life.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Just cannot imagine the pain. It scares me to think of anything happening to mine.......If you do not mind sharing her story I would like to know how her problem started and how long she had renal problems.

I'm happy for you that you now have another little one to love. Enjoy him and hope all goes well for you.

So sorry about your sweet Sushi. So difficult to loose a wonderful friend. You will never forget her, but so glad you have Westy to love and to love you back. Enjoy him, nothing helps more than the love of another puppy that needs you so much. It really helps. Welcome Westy to the Coton fan club! We are all fans here of this sweet breed. Look for the Coton de Tulear facebook site also. It too is a great Coton site.

She will be forever missed. Without a doubt she was the most loving and loyal companion. She was beautiful and extremely smart. Sushi died of renal failure at age 7. I will always feel her loss.

Sushi

(Pensacola, Fl USA)

She was a beautiful companion for seven years and her life was cut short with renal failure. It broke my heart to lose this wonderful dog. Everyone loved and admired her that came in contact. She was very intelligent and would follow every word spoken. She was that special baby girl that will always have a place in my heart. She was also an alpha female and would run the boys (other family dogs) out of any room.

She would ride proudly everyday to work with me in her
SUV seat and then greet customer's at my business. All my clients miss her as well as my friends. She was the boss!

Iris' comments NEW
by: Connie

I, too, believe that unhealthy treats and some meds could cause problems. Sushi was on the small side, actually too small to be a show dog, and I don't know if the problem developed as she aged or was hereditary. My brother purchased me a new little boy Coton named Westy for my birthday. He is very sturdy and healthy and you can see it in his eyes. He is only given carrots and green peas and other screened healthy dog treats as recommended by the shop that sells me his Earthborn Healthy catch (which he loves. He will get no other human food. A friend informed me that she felt flea and heartworm meds could cause problems in some dogs. I just don't know

goodbye Sushi NEW
by: Iris

Dear Connie, so sorry to hear about sweet Sushi passing. I worry all the time about my dog, with all the warnings about foods and chemicals I use for my dog. Do you know what caused the renal failure? Does it have anything to do with flea meds or foods? I get the dog food recall information emails and get very nervous every time I read them. I had to stop giving Tuffy heartworm pre-meds because of side effects.
Any advice you can give is very welcome.
God Bless and I hope another loving dog will come your way.
love and blessings,
Tuffy and Mom Iris

Sushi and renal failure NEW
by: Anonymousconnie

The breeder is still using Sushi's brother as one of her stud dogs and has had no problems. She informed me the dog could have treatment which would have been painful so I opted to go a more conservative route and she lived another 8 months. I assume this was very unusual for a Coton to have renal failure as they are known to be a very healthy breed.

I am sorry to hear about Sushi. Such a cute name BTW It seems so young for a Coton. Did you let the breeder know? I know sometimes they want to know if there are any health issues.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sushi. What a terrible loss. It' so hard to lose one of our family members. My little dachshund, Scruffy, died of renal failure. That's how we came about getting our Coton Bentley. I will keep you in my thoughts.
So sorry,
Carole and Bentley
