Potty Training outside

I'm a first time dog owner. My 6 month old, Baxter was potty trained by the breeder to pee/poop on a pee pad. When I walk him I try to get him to go outside but he refuses. He will hold it no matter how long I keep him outside and wait until we get inside and pee/poop on the pad. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Baxter probably thinks he's supposed to go inside on a pee pad. I would recommend moving the pee pad closer and closer to the door until you end up outside with it. I started my dog off on a pee pad and then started taking her outside. Now, she goes outside without a problem. There have been a couple occasions when she did use a pee pad. It was raining so hard one time that when we got to the door she backed up & refused to go. I put a pee pad down and she used it right away.

Try to move your potty training pad outside. Also when you walk your dog on a leash he will sniff around and will get motivated.

Hope for Baxter NEW

I had the same problem with Luc and then one day we stayed at a friend's house who had dogs. When Luc saw the other dogs going potty outside, he just did the same. Is there a dog park near you where Baxter can learn from others dogs? And the good news is that because Luc was trained on pee pads, it comes in handy when there's a storm outside. 😆
