My stinky dog! Update!

I wrote before asking about coton's stinking. Well, I took Jasmine to the groomer last week and lo and behold her anal glands were packed full and that was where the stink was coming from. She got the spa treatment and practically shaved as she was full of mats. They just came on sort of quickly. She looks kind of pitiful but her hair will grow back. I miss her puffy little legs and paws.

I couldn't take her where other dogs were until she had all of her vaccinations. Now, it is almost time for getting spayed. Another month. She is such a sweet and lively pooch. I just hope that smell stays away. I never thought it was the glands because everything I read said it was a "fishy" smell and would come from behind. It wasn't fishy and the smell was all over. But, now she smells somewhat good. And I think I will keep her in the puppy cut.

We have to do it
by: Emily

I had heard that as well, but there are some dogs who for whatever reason just can't express them on their own while pooping. If you have a good groomer and trust them it's worth doing. If I didn't have our dogs done I would be going crazy all the time with that smell.

My vet said it is not good to have glands expressed because then the dog will have trouble all the time. One women wrote her dog got really hurt by the groomer doing it.

Stinky Dog

My cotton has anal gland issues when the vet checked her he said the opening of the gland is the size of a pin hole and it has to be squeezed a certain way and now I have to take her monthly so the doctor can express her anal glands I most likely be doing this the rest of her life but it helps her and that is what matters

So glad you have solved your stinky problem. Our rescue dog has anal gland problems as well. Not a pleasant thing but at least you know the reason. Thanks for the update and she should be fine now that the groomer is aware. Good Luck!

Keeping the glands cleaned
by: Emily

Hi there, glad to hear you figured out the problem. One thing to keep in mind is that every time you have your pup groomed you'll most likely need to have the glands expressed. I have my boy Casper groomed every 6 weeks and he she expresses his glands every time. Good luck!
