My coton does not poop regularly

Hi Everyone. My 3 month old Coton is doing a great job with housetraining. That said, I have read that dogs poop 20-30 minutes after eating, my dog is not regular at all. Twice this week, we have had to leave him in our kitchen before pooping (bc we had to go out) and he pooped while we were gone (very close to the puppy pad - which we leave out even though we are training him to go outside bc our breeder had him pad trained). Any suggestions for helping my dog become more regular and getting him to be more consistent about pooping outside?

Regular poop. LOL NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

The 20-30 mins is basically an approx. time to start looking for signs. It depends on how fast the food processes thru the stomach & out the butt. It can also depend if he has gotten excited laid still etc. after he eats.

One thing thou a rule of thumb is no playing, walks until 20-30 mins after they eat in order for it to digest. Pretty much like a human.

Irregular Poops NEW
by: Terry (Chloe)

Chloe has never pooped on a regular basis. She eats on her own schedule. We leave her food down and she gets only what she has been prescribed by our vet for quantity. She likes to graze and we let her. She will poop sometimes once a day and other times twice a day. More often if we give her occasional small pieces of carrot for a treat or cheerios also recommended by our vet. Don't overdo it though. Whoever said these dogs are difficult to housebreak are not talking about a purebred Coton, Chloe was so easy. In just 5 weeks she was asking to go out. They are very intelligent and I think you can teach this breed just about anything. It just takes a little patience and they get it.

Coton poop regularly NEW
by: Cathy

When I got Jasmine she was 15 months old and trained to go out side, I live alone and I am in a wheelchair, the first few days of getting up during the night to go out was fine but after that I wasn't happy. I was actually afraid to go outside during the night. I trained her to go on the potty pad, I keep two out, one in my kitchen and one by the french doors. She was trained in less that 2 weeks!
Now she only goes wee wee or poop outside if she is out there a long time, otherwise she only goes on the pads.
She is on a schedule, goes first thing in the morning and again before I leave for work in the afternoon. When I get home there is usually a gift for me on the pad! And she may go one more time before we get in bed.
They are a very smart breed of dog, good luck!

How BEAMER potty trained us! NEW
by: Sandi

Beamer is 13 months old and was very easy to train. I have heard this breed is hard, but he was a breeze. We always pay attention to him, when he goes to the door we ask if he wants to go out. He lets us know if that's it. Then we take him out, watch and call him back in when he's done. and of course he gets a treat everytime. I guess you could say he trained us. For emergencies we do have a piddle pad down, but he hasn't used it in 6 or 8 months. Just listen to your dog... is my advice! Good luck!

Be patient NEW
by: Anonymous

My little guy was hard to train too. He dosn't eat regular hence he dosen't poop regular. He eventually got it though. I went away for a couple of nights and left him with a friend who had a bunch of dogs. I swear the other dogs trained him to go only outside, because after that he only went outside. Good Luck...and be patient it will come.....
