My coton Comet is always chewing on his paws

by Anonymous

My coton Comet is always chewing on his paws. The fur around the spot where the claws meet the pads have turned a color like this (View link below). No indication why he is doing this. I think it is an unhealthy habit. Any Recommendations?

Paw chewing NEW

My vet said it was because of allergies. She recommended allergy medication to make him stop chewing his paws.

constant licking of paws NEW
by: B

For years I have always rinsed my Coton's paws in clear water when we return from a walk. It is amazing how much sand and "stuff" is in the sink after rinsing each paw in clear water. I know some dogs who are on medicine for this problem. And since I have done this, I have never had a paw licking problem. Your might try this and see how it works for you. No cost and no meds in his system.

Licking paws NEW

I’m not an expert on this but I would guess that your pups have some sort of allergy that is making them itch so they chew As a means to scratch that itch. I would suggest talking to Your Veterinarian about it.
Good luck with your babies!

My 13th month Bijou, does exactly as you describe. It’s the left paw that seems to take her fancy.
I have posted the problem but so far no one has come up with an answer.
The left paw 🐾 is orange from the saliva , inpr dune!!
