Anal glands NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

It's a myth that dogs have to have their anal glands done. John is 10 & never had. It's not to say some may have a problem as in anything, but anal glands take care of themselves when they poop.

Now you do keep the area back there combed & cleaned if poop somehow catches on the fur & dries or they had diarrhea fr something they ate. Throw them in the tub with your sprayer & shampoo & clean the butt. Just as people if its not keep clean they will try to clean it bc it will itch.

Other then that their 4-6 wk bath & daily brushing depending on length of coat keeps them groomed. If they have anal problems they will scoot but they will do that if their butt is dirty fr poop.

If you start extracting anal glands you will have to continue if you don't you won't. They r like kids. If there biting or scratching check it out normally you'll find a jagger of something. Think princess & the pea.

Expressing anal glands NEW
by: Anonymous

It’s important and common to express anal glands, they can become full and could rupture and the dog could die if not treated.
I have to take my little girl every three weeks to get hers expressed because she gets full very easy.
I go to the vet and have my vet do it because they express the glands internally and externally, where a groomer only expresses externally.
When your dog starts scooting that’s one of the signs the anal glands needs to be expressed.
As far as your dog not eating after it got its anal glands expressed by the groomer maybe the groomer heard her and didn’t do it properly and she might be p as far as your dog not eating after it got its anal glands expressed by the groomer maybe the groomer hurt her and didn’t do it properly and your baby got stressed being it was her first time having it done.
Personally l rather have my vet do it then a groomer at least l know it’s being done properly.
Good luck
