Looking to rehome 8 yr old Coton with dementia

by Kristina
(Fairfax, VA)

I am copying a message below that I received from a Coton mom who is looking for help with her dog who is struggling with dementia. She is in the Fairfax, VA area. This post is for those who may be interested in adopting this dog. If so, reach out to me and I will connect you with the dog owner. (Gale)

Our amazing pup Tango has dementia, he is only 8 ,is a caramel color and has a funny set of toes on his back right foot since birth, we got him from a breeder because they couldn’t breed him due to these special differences. He is an amazing, loving and loyal dog. Great personality and so sweet. Our dilemma is due to his dementia. He is confused and cannot seem to stop going to the bathroom in the house. We had him checked for illness with the vet who cleared his health - ust maybe suffering from memory loss of how to wait for a walk.

Not sure but we can’t keep him any longer because we are not home enough to care for him , so he is in the crate all night and most of the day, doesn’t seem fair to him and we don’t want him to spend his life in a crate.

Anyone in your network that might be open to adopting him?

Dementia in Dogs
by: Brenda

My last dog, (not a Coton)had dementia. It started out the same way, and progressively got worse. She'd pace back and forth for hours at a time. She had such a confused look on her face because she didn't understand what was going on. She got worse as time went on. I couldn't watch her pace everyday, and she was miserable. I put her out of her misery. It was hard for me, but the best thing for her. I miss her everyday.
