Keeping paws and muzzle clean

Hi, we just got a Coton two weeks ago. She's very curious and every time we bring her home from walks her muzzle and paws get very dirty. I have tried wiping this with just water and a cloth, but it doesn't seem to help much. Can you share your tips for keeping her fur white? (I do have the Angel Eyes for the tear stains).

Thank you!

People were calling me crazy! NEW
by: Bonsai

I love this site and reading everyones posts. People were calling me crazy for washing her paws after a walk and I thought why her paws gets so dark so fast. I live in the city core and streets are very dirty. I found these socks that has been dipped into rubber. They are fexible and light which protects her from dirt and light rain. If te ground is very wet she will get wet but stays clean. She wears these socks everytime we go out all year round. They are very flexible since the are just socks. Occasionally or the day she is getting a bath she gets to run around outdoor o'natural (no socks).

I will use anything from dawn to white shampoo if it gets to bad as a touch up. They r dirt magnets as someone else said.

I do find on their paws if I keep the hair trimmed a little above the pads & it doesn't touch the road it doesn't absorb so much dirt. We walk alot.

You can also get a white spray conditioner that you spay on comb or brush. It will help for the gray look. I'll use Petco Brand.

When they r puppies it is a constant battle since they love to play where they get dirty. If it's in summer u can just use the outside hose, water gently to wash up a little w/the dawn or shampoo on the feet & muzzle.

washing paws

We fill a all tub with wa water. Then fill a solo cup with water. Put the tiniest amount of dawn in the cup. Dawn is used to clean wildlife. So it is safe. We dip her paws, one at a time in the cup and swish. Then rinse her paws and dry with a towel. This really cleans our little coton well. Hope this helps. Cotons are the best dogs ever.

Congrats on getting your new coton.....They are a dirt/grass magnet so like the above comments only way to clean them is water.......I fill bathroom sink with warm water and soak feet for a minute or two to remove sand from toes----hand pick grass/etc.

Messy job but only way to clean feet and tummy. I also wipe face each am with cotton ball under eyes to remove eye "boogies" and also used angel eyes at one time but because of the antibiotics in it Its not recommended for long term use.

Lots of maintenance on these darling dogs but you will find it is worth it. They are so loving and funny. Good luck with your new family member.

I also rinse his paws off in the sink to rinse off any sand, etc.after walks. I take a damp cloth and wash his face gently after eating. Rinsing paws also seems to help reduce allergic reactions to the environment. I just switched from Angel Eyes to Miracle Eyes (vegeterian formula) which I got from 1800 Pet Meds. It does not contain antibiotics and seems to be working very well.

Clean paws
by: Bailey in California

My dog gets very dirty on walks especially when the grass is dewy. Her paws and chin get very dirty as her nose is always to the ground. The only solution I have found was to put her in the sink and wash her paws at the end of her daily walks before bedtime. As far as her chin, I get a wet washcloth. This doesn't totally clean it but gets most of the dirt off. Her tummy collects a lot of junk if the grass is tall or when she kicks the grass. Messy dog but I love her
