I need any suggestions on a Coton’s tail was shaved...

My Charlies tail was shaved by the vet bc it had a part of it that was matted due to wind & salty water at the beach. Vet advised matted part could get tighter and hurt him.

He’s been miserable for over a week. Has terrible anxiety & is terrified to go potty. Any suggestions what to do ?

It’s true that mats can eventually cause skin damage and pain. Maybe your pup has a little razor burn around his anus—that can cause fear of more pain at potty time. Ask your vet if it can be treated to take away the burn and itch…eventually it will grow out enough and the burn and itch will go away.

Mats in general can be difficult because of the long fine Coton hair. I groom Winnie daily even tho she goes to her groomer every four weeks. I also keep her in a "puppy cut," because she plays with lots of other dogs and can get matted really fast. Her glorious tail is long and natural though, but gets combed…a lot!! She is really accustomed to this now, altho at first as a young pup she was resistant. I think now, it’s just part of her cuddling and routine with me.
