Feeding your Coton Chicken NEW
by: Iris

I feed my 9 year old Coton Chicken but not saline injected and not seasoned or pre cooked chicken. Mostly once a day because he is on a specially urinary formula dog food since he makes bladder stones. The Veterinary Surgeon approve my giving Tuffy a little chicken with his dog food( he gets about 1/2 cup of canned wet food and chicken for dinner. In the morning he gets the same Rx formula dry kibble with a few freeze dried beef liver treats crumbled ove his food. And fresh purified water. Tuffy has reoccurring calcium oxylate stones and has had four bladder surgeries in two years to remove stones. The special prescribed food is supposed to increase his thirst to drink more and keep his urine flowing clear and frequently to
Prevent the stones from forming. ( that hasn't worked very well). HisVet now has him taking a diuretic, so using the pee training pads indoors is now a true necessity. And, we still go outside five times a day to find more spots to mark.
I boil skinless chicken breast( fat removed) and simmer covered until it's very tender, and chop up about a tablespoon of it and sprinkle it on his canned wet food, some days just a couple of tablespoons of chopped chicken with about a fourth cup of the cooking water. I always warm his food to room temperature. I keep the rest of the cooked chicken in the cooking water in a sealed container in the refrigerator, and just break off a small chunk to warm and chop up.
