how many times a year should a breeder produce litters?

I just notified a breeder regarding a purchase of a coton and I asked how many litters a year they produce and they told me they did 12 litters a year with 6 moms and 3 dads and they also breed about 4 or 5 other breeds. I just don't want to buy a puppy from a puppy mill. Please help me.

Answer:

I'm born & raised on a farm. It's not unnatural for animals to breed as often as they can. Pups need their liter and their animal mom more than human interaction at young ages. At least you know your getting a pup that has not been previously trained by a human, errors attached. It's a fresh approach, you alone with your pup.

My best cat was a kitten born in a barn.

My best pup was a Coton born in a garage without much human contact. He had lots of contact with his litter mates and his animal mom.

I too was concerned, like you. However, That puppy turned out to be THE best ever!

Breeders that breed once a year and raise the puppies indoors do not necessarily produce more loving or healthy puppies. Let animal nature guide you. Puppies need their animal mom. Either way the pups are sold by 8 weeks to 12 weeks.

Sounds like you reached a farm. Professional farming is a talent, not a sin. The pup leaves his mom. That in itself is sad, breeder or farmer.

The pup leaves his mom. Love your pup. You're his new forever mommy.

It's a duck NEW
by: Anonymous

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's probably a duck. With. 6 bitches and 12 litters a year when are these poor dogs not breeding. Plus how don't they socialize that many dogs. There is no way they can get any meaningful human interaction. Run in the opposite direction.
