hair loss

by emeter125

Panda is almost 1 year old. About a month ago she started losing hair in a large area (3" by 5" on her side close to her tummy). She has also started losing hair in other spots (neck, leg, other side by her tummy). It is not fungus. Any ideas? My vet does not know the cause and is suggesting taking her to a vet dermatologist which could get very pricey.

Alopecia

I have had several dogs with alopecia. It's horrible but you can use sunscreen on your dogs that is for a baby and dress them up when it is cold. They still look cute but yes it's sad they lose their fur. It happens often when you get dogs from breeders as I am an experienced buyer. Bad genes, re-breeding etc. I still love my babies no matter what.

Thank you both for responding. I took Panda to a veterinary dermatologist. He thinks it was an allergic reaction to something that got on her not something that she ingested. Sounds like both of you were thinking along the same lines.

hair loss NEW

Try switching any or all new things he may have come into contact with around the time u noticed the loss. As the other post said in it a simple antibiotic . I'm sure ur vet ruled out common bugs & such if he ck'd for fungus.

Medicines, new dog bed, shampoos, treats, blankets etc. Good luck. Treat it as u would try to determine yourself. Take all away & add them back in 1 by 1.

Hair Loss NEW

My 8 year old male , Buddy has the same problem . he has a 2 inch square bald spot on his side that developed shortly after we moved to a new house. After my wife used a topical ointment, plus we have now lived in new house 8 months, the hair is almost all grown back, and the vet told us also that he didn't know what caused it.
