My puppy Jaydee has taken to growling at me when I put his harness on or at times when I go to pick him up .

He was ok till recently he's being neutered in 2 weeks time will this help ? What can I do to prevent this growling before it gets out of hand . The vet checked him over the other week and he growled at the vet which he has never done before the reason for neutering him is he has a trapped testical which hasn't dropped could this be the cause. Any help please .

Attention Seeking behaviour NEW
by: Jezza

Our Walter uses a low growl to get our attention. This is usually if he needs out to pee or wants to draw our attention to a nice ham or roast joint on the counter that he would like a taste of.

Its not used in an aggressive manner

My Coton Is 4 Years Old now. ( just turned 4 ) they are very strong willed and it takes time and patience, but be consistent with training and he'll come around. Nipping and growling is mostly playful or testing you. Overboard in praise after correction helps. They are so darned smart and sensitive. Consistency Love and whole lot of patience if you have a little toughy is key. They read you like a book. ... pick up on your energy totally.

As soon as u hear a growl give them a sharp Ah Ah w/o your voice. The correction voice. They learn that's ur not proper behavior voice & can be used anytime. Depending on the mischief depends on how stern u want it to sound.

U can also go to Zak George on Facebook or zakgeorge/youtube.com & he does wonderful training videos that r free. He's a very good positive trainer that compares to Victoria Still well but his r free LOL. GOOD LUCK

My Coton had stuck one of testicle, and neutered when he was 9 month old. After the surgery, he did not like the vet, but he never growl or mis behave. So I do not think that two things are related.

I think that he is still afraid if you are taking to the vet.
If I were you, I will not just put the harness or pick him off. I will play a little game with him (with treat) before pick him off or put the harness on. I think that he is still afraid and not gotten over surgery trauma. He needs to re-learn he will be okay when you put on a harness on him, or pick him off.

Jaydee is telling you, he is still afraid.
Good luck with Jaydee.

Our Cotton is two years old and does this when we tell her NO! or try to take something away that she isn't supposed to have. Also , any little change in my appearance such as a hat or limp in my walk or even glasses sometimes throws her off too.

Our 5 year old cotton started growling at us a few months ago. Usually it's at night, when he's been sleeping near our feet. It's when my husband gets up to go into another room. Also a few times after a walk when we take his leash off. We feel as if he's just tired ...... we just tell him to "Go to Bed". In a few minutes he's okay. He has never snapped at us.
