soiling his crate NEW
by: Anonymous

Our little coton hates to be by hinself. When left alone he soils his crate. We moved his crate into the bedroom next to our bed. Problem solved. He's fine as long as he knows that we are there.

Crate Problem
by: Anonymous

Dividing the crate is a great idea. I didn't have issues with my little girl as she doesn't like to be wet but I always made sure that I took her out before crating her and only left her for a maximum of 15 minutes and then adding time a little at a time until we got up to a longer period of time in her crate. She actually loves her crate and therefore doesn't want to do her business in it. I agree that you might have her checked by your vet for maybe a bladder infection or some other condition and if she's okay ask your vet for some suggestions. She could be nervous have anxiety and that can cause them to want to pee more often. Be paitent she'll get there as long as you remember their bladders aren't very big and they can't hold it for very long. Good Luck - it will work out..it takes time and patience.

Coton Newsletter 10/12 2011
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

Going thru my Jonah file I found this Coton dated newsletter which covers house training problems which is a good read & may help.

I am not sure if u can find the old newsletters here on the website but I would imagine if u contact Gale she could get it to u thru ur email.

I must admit I do save & at times copy or print this wonderful info for the folks that may need the help I run into at the dog park or fostering. I hope that this is ok by the authors for I feel if it helps 1 person in the growth of a healthy, stable dog it is a win win.

Things to consider
by: Suzan

You don't mention your dogs age which is a huge factor. If it is a puppy, divide the crate into three area: sleep, eat and pee. Move the pee papers out side of the crate and eventually move them outside.
If this is a dog that was previously housebroken, perhaps she peed on something outside that made her water burn her feet? She could have a bladder or kidney infection. Or she just has a small bladder and can't hold it as long as other dogs.
I had a dog that loved the smell of pine. If you used pine jelly to clean the floors she would cover them in pee. A few years after we stopped using pine jelly, my Mom bought some and mopped all the floors with it. I came home to a river of pee. It was an Ah HA moment...
Sometimes you just have to sit and think about all the possibilities and rule them out one by one. Hope this helps.

Crate Training
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

Their is alot of free info on crate training espectionally thru the Humane Society websites.

Not knowing age basics r every 3 hrs. When they potty outside take a treat from ur pocket & say good potty. A dog will not go where they sleep unless they really, really have to go or they are still very young where the knowledge of how to crate train will be a big help..

Yes the best thing to clean the crate with is white vinegar. Make sure u also wash whatever blankets are also in the crate to get rid of all the pee smell. Good luck let us know how u do.

Soiling Crate.
by: Anne

You may want to check with your vet. Our vet offers behaviorial advice once it has been determined that the soiling is not coming from some type of bacterial or viral infection. It may also be the length of time in the crate. She may not be able to hold it that long, especially if she has eaten any rawhide or vegetable sticks etc.

Dog Soiling Crate

I would first make sure you are taking your dog outside frequently enough. If you are and it still happens, there may be a stomach/intestinal problem. Hope this helps.
