Does your dog sleep in your bed?

by Katie

We just completed dog obedience training with our 6 month old Coton de Tulear and were told that if we wanted a well trained dog we have to establish leadership and that our dog should NOT sleep in our bed because of this.

Can anyone share their experience on this subject? We love having the dog sleep with us but don't want to do anything to impede training.

Any thoughts?

Dog Sleeping With Us
by: Melody H Doyle

Our new Coton puppy has slept in our bed ever since the first night we brought him home (9 weeks old). We were amazed at how quiet he was all night long! I only had to take him out in the middle of the night for about 2 or 3 nights; after that, he sleeps until we get up. I don't think his sleeping with us has any effect on his behavior. We love it and so does he!

Sleeping with big dogs

I think having your dogs sleep with you is a personal choice. I know people that would never consider letting their dogs sleep in their beds.

My 2 very large dogs both sleep in our bed and they are very well trained. Yes, the sheets have to be cleaned more often and there are some nights that I end up like a contortionist so I don't disturb THEM, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Both our dogs sleep in bed with us, I heard the same thing but our dogs love to cuddle at night and listen when they need to.

Sleeping with dogs

Our 2 dogs sleep either with my husband and I or with one of our kids in their beds. We had them sleep in their crates until they were housebroken and then they pretty much had the run of the house. They are all very well trained.
