Do you know what these episodes could be?

I have a 4 month old Coton Zorro that is full of personality! Sometimes he has these "episodes" where he looks like he is having these little spasms as though he's trying to catch his breath while having what look like exaggerated hiccups. It is not at all like when he hiccups. And it is not a "reverse sneeze" either. It usually passes after a minute and he does not seem distressed. Does anyone have any insight as to what this could be?

Thank you for sharing! They seem to last 1-2 minutes. I finally caught it on video. Is there a way to download that on this site?

I'm not positive what you are trying to describe but I think it might be the same thing Cindy does and one of my two toy poodles too. They seem to do it when they are most excited. They are both very food motivated and the excitement of the possibility of a treat can set them off. Or they can eat to fast and the same thing will happen. Or sometimes when they are excited to see us come home. They hack and almost seem to choke . It used to scare me but doesn't seem to bother them. I think it is something like inhaling water/saliva when you should be swallowing. I've had other dogs but they did not do this.
