Do Coton’s bark a lot ?

by Ellie

We had a Maltese that would bark when anyone walked in the room and then keep barking for a while. It was like she would get startled. Also when on a walk she would bark at all people and dogs.

Each Coton will be different NEW

I have my third Coton and she is a little barker for sure. She is a bit more high strung. She barks at every little noise and even barks at us when we move at times. Perhaps, it is boredom that causes this. The barking is somewhat variable. She can also be mellow at times.

My first 2 Cotons were males and both from the same breeder. Barking occurred because I had 2 males at the same time and one of those males was extremely insecure and could not be in the presence of the other male Coton. We kept these 2 males apart from each other as much as possible. As long as these 2 Cotons were kept apart they were quite mellow and barked only occassionally such as when someone was at the front door.

Barking NEW

Mine does. He's 18 months old. He barks at birds, rabbits, people who walk past our fence... He's gotten a little better than he was a few months ago. I guess he's becoming a little bit more discerning. However, I will give him kudos for being a wonderful watch dog. Nothing or no one will ever get close to our home without him giving a loud warning. On the positive side, he is the most sweet, loving, playful and silly little boy. He's an absolute joy. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

barking NEW

Our beautiful maltese who passed away on her 10th birthday was the cleverest dog we have ever had, but she was the same, barked forever when someone came until you picked her up, and same as yours she barked at all dogs and people when out. Our Coton only barks at people passing the gate, and she barks if she sees animals on the tv. When out all she wants to do is play with other dogs and loves people, she is a great little dog (Truffles) and although a little noisy at times, no where near like our beloved maltese.
