Deaf Rescued Coton

I have recently become the new mummy of a 10 year old former breeder who found herself homeless with a mouthful of bad teeth. She is a sweetheart and is recovering from a full mouth tooth extraction. She is also deaf. Does anyone have any suggestions for establishing "commands?" I have a little movement I do with my hands to ask her to approach me when she is on the bed.
Thank-you in advance.

deafness NEW

I too have a cotton that is now deaf. He became deaf at age 12. He has been deaf now for a year without any issues. The biggest thing I do to communicate with him is to try not and scare him when I approach him sleeping. I gently touch him to wake him up, but sometimes he still jumps. I also use hand motions with him.
