Coton de Tulear potty training problem

by Barbara

Hi. I have a problem and don't know what to do. I have four Coton de Tulear dogs - Mom and Dad age 4 and 3 and two pups (pupparoos as we call them. I potty trained my pups from like day three took them outside and they were potty trained.

Recently my twins went away to college again and now all the time the pups pee on the hardwood floor at night. I can NOT catch which one does it. I originally had a potty pad there when they were babies near the door and they did that fine. How can i fix this problem?

They learned so well about potty training before. I don't know what to do anymore other than lock them in my room with me at night. I don't like doing that because the older ones like to walk around the house...Can you suggest something?

I am home all day, we live on half an acre and we walk sometimes even twice a day for an hour. Is this a behavioral problem? Thanks

Pee pads
by: Iris Miller

I would also suggest putting the pee pads back there where your puppy is peeing (again). They smell the odor there and it is very hard to get it out. I use Woolite Powershot foam cleaner it works like a dream on everything, pee, poop, throwup, all disappears, not stain mark, no odor.. I spray it on pee paw prints, When they step in the pee they leave prints and scent where they walked. Continue to take them out and praise loud and happy when they pee and poop outside, ie:high pitched voice, "good boy, make poop-pee out side!!! Good dog !!!! as soon as they do it.
I hope this works for you.
love my Coton,

POTTY ISSUES
by: SHERRY - COTTON

HAVE YOU TRIED PUTTING THE PEE PADS BACK DOWN BY THE DOOR? MY LITTLE GIRL IS 13 MOS. AND IS REAL GOOD UNLESS SHE GETS UPSET WITH US, THEN SHE LEAVES HER LITTLE STATEMENT ON THE CARPET.

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO CONFINE THE TWO PUPPYS IN YOUR ROOM AND LEAVING THE OLDER ONES LOOSE?? AT LEAST YOU WOULD KNOW FOR SURE WHICH GROUP IT IS.

HAVE YOU TRIED SAYING " WHO DID THIS" IN A MEAN VOICE AND SEE THEIR RESPONSE. USUALLY THE GUILTY ONE WILL DUCK OR WALK AWAY.

IT IS FRUSTRATING BUT I WOULD GUESS IF THEY WERE TRAINED BEFORE IT IS MORE OF AN ANXIETY ISSUE, SHOULD NOT LAST FOREVER.

Punishing you??
by: Terri

I think they are mad that the twins left and are punishing you. My old labrador did that when my brother left for the army. He stopped after a few weeks when he had accepted the loss. He did do it again whenever my brother came home. He also would steal my brothers pillow and pee on it. I don't think he took kindly to being abandoned.
The only other reason I can think is a possible urinary track infection. Dogs who are trained and then return to being untrained usually have a reason; be it stress or medical.
