Coton Confessions

Luc is by far the smartest dog I've ever had, but I swear sometimes he does the stupidest things. This week he's left me scratching my head a couple of times.

First, I found him outside on my back porch during a pretty heavy rain storm just sitting out in the rain. 95% of the porch is enclosed, but he found the tiny part that was out in the open and was just sitting there getting soaking wet. Hmmm

Now the second thing is even weirder. This week he's decided to start eating my clothes, with a particular preference for denim. I had left some laundry on top of my dresser to be put away and he literally ate half of a sweater and a good portion of 2 pairs of denin jeans. Now Luc has eaten some pretty weird things over the years, but he must have an iron stomach because he didn't seem impacted by ingesting all that material. His appetite and bathroom habits haven't changed a bit.

Does anyone else have any Coton confessions? Do I have the only "odd" dog?

Wet Dog
by: Susan

My dog Gem also loves to sit out in the rain and get soaking wet. The weird thing is that she hates to go out for a walk when it's raining, but she'll go out on the uncovered patio and let the rain fall on her head. I guess she just doesn't like to get her feet wet. She's such a funny girl!

Coton Confessions
by: Jolie's Mom

Jolie will pull any and all paper out of the trashcans, especially those in the bathrooms and drag the paper all over the house, eating most of it. She has been know to climb in the bed and teetee on the sheets, whether they have been on the bed a few days or they are fresh washed. She also likes to run in the rain and hates a bath! but, after the bath, her favorite thing is to wear the towel around for a while and she will stop every few minutes and roll in it to dry off.

Coton Confessions
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

Jonah has always loved to lay out in the rain here in AZ. As soon as the wind starts to blow with the storm moving in I will find him laying in the yard. He will continue to lay in the rain or lightning if I allowed.

If it is raining a little which rain is rare we will even take our walk in it to enjoy. Yet when it is raining & the back door has been left open to enjoy the weather I will find poop in the living room where as he cannot be bothered to poop outside.

He will go so far as to be laying outside in it even & I will call him in when I see it has started & within a short time he will have pooped inside. Any other time I do not have a problem. Go figure.

We're not alone...
by: Gale

Thanks for fessing up your confessions; it’s nice to know Luc's not alone. I guess I shouldn’t make fun of my poor little guy. I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve spent all day solving complex problems at my job only to come home putting my car keys in the frig. I guess Luc is so busy thinking of smart & inventive ways to get into trouble that he sometimes just doesn’t have anything left to figure out how to come in out of the rain.

coton confessional
by: iris Miller

When Tuffy was having a severe reaction to a flea application he was feverish and (this dog does not love baths) he was trying to get into the tub to get a shower or a bath, He could not climb in so he hugged the cool tub from the outside all night. Sometimes he stands in the rain and it seems like he is pondering the where and what of it. He had to be shaved yesterday by a groomer, and he was mad at me for leaving him and upset with the whole experience. He has not been to a groomer for over a year since I started grooming him myself.I was not able to do this myself this time and had to bring him to a professional groomer. Again, Tuffy was traumatized and has been depressed and freaked out since this experience.

This morning he would NOT go out in the rain when usually it does not bother him, it must have reminded him of the groomer spraying him in the bath. I had to put a jacket on him after the rain slowed up and literally drag him out to pee.
I once had a great boxer mixed breed who lived in the garage and back yard.(My son had allergies and asthma, we could not keep the dog in the house). When I would do my laundry in the garage I did not notice a dropped sock, wool ones of my husbands, and our dog BeeBee would sneak it away. I did not know he was eating them until one day I saw him in the yard trying to poop and realized it was long strands of yarn! What amazed me is the socks were totally unraveled and coming out as yarn. I did not have the stomach to help him get it out, though my heart ached for his struggle,I made my husband go pull it out of the dog's butt.My reasoning was:It's your socks, you should get them out of him. I guess our dogs need more fibrous things to chew.

Maybe Luc standing in the rain if possibly he is having burning or itching from his dermatitis like Tuffy had, and allergies, or maybe mites biting him?Maybe he just likes singing in the rain! I wouldn't put anything past our intelligent Coton's.
love, Iris and tuffy

Coton Confessions

Luc sounds like a wonderful and interesting dog. -I have read that dogs will eat their human's clothes, underwear etc. to protect their human from a predator. We had a recent event like that with our grand dog, Dakota who is a Golden. Our Molly, a coton, who I swear is a human at times, has some pretty interesting behaviors. When given a certain bisquit (Mother Hubbards Couch Potato cookie) she will hide them in my shoes, slippers, in my closet behind shoe boxes or under the furniture. And if she sees me cleaning in an area where there may be a hidden bisquit, she watches me until I am done. If I find the bisquit, I have to pretend that I didn't take it.

She is so smart. When our other dog Sandy (a Havanese) takes her bone, she will come to me and want to play or be picked up. Then Sandy gets jealous and wants attention. Once Sandy is being petted, Molly jumps down and steals her bone back. Sandy falls for it everytime. Cotons are certainly very entertaining. Love her to bits.

Selective Intelligence
by: Anonymous

Too funny. My Coton has selective intelligence as well. He seems to have extraordinary analytical skills and I can actually see him thinking sometimes. And yet... he hasn't mastered the skill of lifting his leg to go potty and often pees on himself. Geez

Squirrel!
by: Sam and Zeus

Zeus is funny he likes squirrels he will not settle down until every squirrel is out of the yard or chased up the nearest tree. He also loves to dig and growl out the window at anything that moves. He is not aggressive but just doesn't like anything that is not a human coming near the house. He also steals socks out of the laundry basket I came home to find my laundry tipped over and every sock gone from the basket on his bed and he was sleeping on them. It was cute so I couldn't stay mad at him.

You're not alone
by: Beau

Had to smile at Luc sitting in the only spot on the porch that was getting wet! Seems like something Beau would do.

I am a quilter, so I usually have fabric lying around, especially when working on a project. I am currently saving the "bandanas" the groomer puts on Beau to make him a quilt. I wash them before I store them. Beau NEVER touches my fabric, but he found those bandanas one day, and pulled every one out! He KNEW they were his!

This same dog, if given a chance, after a bath, with a towel over his head, will run into a wall because he can't see where he is going! Does not bother him a bit. All I can do is shake my head.

Dryer sheets thief
by: Maggie

Totally understand! I have a 4 mo. Mayah that's decided there will be no 'used' dryer sheet going to waste in our home.
She never fails to catch the sheet as my arms are busy getting the clothes out of the dryer. Grrr and she takes off and I have to chase her to take it away. She's pretty sneaky and sometimes gets away with eating them as I discovered one in her throw up one day! Seriously?!

My Little Thief
by: Anonymous

My little "Angel", Gabry, used to EAT my shoes and anything else that he could drag out of my closet, but he hasn't been inflicting as much damage lately ... thank goodness! He still loves to "unpack" for me or grab anything that I've touched, worn, etc., and take it out to play with or over to his bed. NOTHING is safe around him!!

Confessions
by: Nicki and Della

No you definitely are not the only one. Della eats toenails and fingernails every time I clip my nails she is so quick to come and lick them up. She is also quite the thief she has taken my phone Ipod and earphones and put them in her dog house. She is so silly nothing seems to be out of reach for her.
