CONTINUAL BARKING AT NIGHT

by Lisa
(Hewlett NY)

My friend has a coton puppy, after 2 months barks at night, every two hours, after 6months old. UPSET NO one knows, nowhere online, if the breed is inbred or trained to get rodents at night, long ago. REALLY do you have any idea, why this is not easily found re purpose of dog, other than a lap dog? Kindly, please advise.

Hello, I have a six month old coton and she occasionally barks at night if she hears something - they are known to be protective of their family.

If your friend is questioning inbreeding, the Embark DNA testing kit will tell you the COI, the percentage of inbreeding. Some of the coton breed clubs have limits on the percentage of inbreeding that they considered acceptable.

I can only speak to the cotons that I am familiar with, but in addition to snuggles, they love playing outside and are very active :)

Good luck, I hope your friend her pup get sleep very soon!

High Strung NEW

Hello,

My Maggie is just over 1 y.o. and she is quite high strung. At night, if she hears something she does growl. I think it is her way of providing security to the family.

Continual barking can be really stressful and the dog is not sleeping? I would try to find ways to reduce the dog's stress such as getting adequate exercise during the day. Best wishes to resolve this problem.

Susan
