Collar

Hello,

I will be getting my coton puppy soon and am doing some shopping before she gets here. What size collar would you purchase for a 10 week old puppy?

have it fitted NEW
by: Anonymous

Every dog is different. I took mine to Petco with me and had them fit her because when I ordered a recommended collar from Amazon, it didn't quite fit right.

no one answered original question NEW

Like myself, the person posting wanted to know what size collar to purchase. I always wear a collar on my dog for ID purposes and walk with a harness. No one seemed to answer her original question.

collars NEW

Up to 6 months it's best to walk a puppy 2-3 Times a day for ex down the street & back. U do not want long walks bc of their growing bones. They really will not pull much & it's good practice for controlling pulling.

I do recommend a harness. You can get walking harnesses that say 11- 18 #'s & can b adjusted accordingly. Most likely your Coton won't get much bigger then 18#'s. Pretty much seeing the mom & dad will help u determine size.

If you look on Ryan's then have the breathable ones
In colors that r nice & cost under $10.

Also Petsmarts deal w/Ryan's. I'm just saying check it out since pet products r so expensive. An example is a belt retractable leash is $22. At Petco. whereas u could get mat magic, the Wahl stylist trimmer battery operated for btween paws & matmagic by going down to Ryan's for $31. By driving down to pick up.

That was my last shopping list. I get their ads in my email & every once & a while the offer free shipping.

As I was looking for trimmer price Amazon was at $13. Ryan's at $8.49.

Collars
by: Crystal

My collar is only for ID purposes, plus their rabies tag. I use a harness for walks. I found the perfect harness for Logan at a mom & pop pet store. It's called EzyDog harness. You can check out their website at www.ezydog.com. Congrats on your new puppy!

Harness only
by: Marcia

Beau only wears a collar only for his tags; a round leather one so his hair does not mat. For walking him, I use a harness. I don't want his throat damaged if I have to pull his leash.

Collar
by: Vicky & Jonah

I would buy a cheap puppy collar for now. Measure neck add 2".

It will really b only used for short walks.
They will grow fast.

At 6 months you r pretty safe investing in a good harness & collar.

I like the round ones from Circle T #1203. They come in colors. U can also get them at Ryan's $6. Where at a pet store will run u $12. To $14.

If u live in Az u can drive to RyansPets.com & buy wholesale. If not ck them out online it still may pay for your needs of your dog.

Pick up some matmagic if u do it will help w/puppy hair & runs $6. If u go to a local Petco they buy alot from Ryan's so u can try it on then shop Ryan's & really save.

Congrats on your new puppy & welcome to site.

COLLAR
by: sherry cotton candie

We were told by the breeder NEVER to use a collar on our puppy.

Perhaps when they are older and leash trained it could be used although when walking I feel safer using their harness's. It does tangle their hair........our first one was a velcro one. big mistake!
Cottons hair would become tangled in it so I would not recommend one like that.

We do have collars for them, Petco carries leather round ones that do not tangle their hair as bad. A tip from Vicky in AZ. They do help. I keep collars on them whenever they are away from home so they have their proper ID in addition to wearing their harness.

Congrats on getting your new baby. Good luck and enjoy the new furry baby.

Jasper loves his Puppia harness
by: Leslie and Jasper

Hi,
My Jasper loves his "Puppia" harness. We have a couple different colors of them. They really breathe and I only have the harness on when we are out. I do have a collar on Jasper and it has His name/phone number, Chip # ,city dog license #, and a holistic anti flea disk.
I also like "Blueberry Pet" for great sweaters and his rain blanket coat thing that is so incredibly easy to put on is by "Zack and Zoe." Jasper loves to wear his rain coat when it rains and he wears sweaters when it is cold. He is very easy to put the Puppia and clothes on as he must have worn clothes before he came into my life .

You will need to get measurement of different parts of your dog to get the size right as the brands all run differently. Jasper is 12 lbs and he wears from a Medium to XL

HARNESS
by: Anonymous

Im a vet tech and we see trachea issues from people using collars. Please use only a harness. I tell all owners that come to our hospital with a new puppy to get a harness and forget the collar. There are several types of harness that are easy on/off and look nice. Do your little one a favor and use a harness!!!

collar vs harness
by: Anonymous

Never wear a collar....harness only. I use the leather buddy belt which works well with little matting! ☺
Enjoy your new puppy. Your life is about to change!!
