Backwards Sneezing

I have a concern about my one year old Coton, being that she is making this awful noise periodically, that sounds like she is choking and one of my vets said that it is a backwards sneeze. She never did it before she got spade at 6 months and I am wondering if it is the vets fault and he didn't position the tube down her throat right and that is why she is frequenting making this choking noise. It really hurts me when she is doing this.


Does anyone else have a similar problem with their Coton? I would love to hear some suggestions on how to deal with this or how to remedy it.

My 11 year old coton does this. It does sound worse than it is. According to the vet it is not a big deal!

My dog Otis does this when he get's excited. I had a Chihuahua that did the same thing. I found that massaging his neck gently and talking to him makes him stop.

What allergy pill? We are in Florida too & truffles sneezes full on.

We have 2 Cotons and only 1 of the does this. Our vet told us that it was a backward sneeze and sounds worse than it is. He also started to get tears in his eyes again. He is a year and half old. The same thing happened last year. In my neighborhood several other dogs of different breeds are experiencing the same thing. Apparently, it is allergy season for dogs. At least in our area (Florida). We give our pup 1 allergy pill a day, 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. The sneezing stopped and his eyes are staying dry. Good luck!

If you aren't already using a harness on walks go get one immediately. Even light pulling on a collar will set off my cotton into chocking spasms.

Socrates has developed allergies when he was around 6 to 7 month old. He takes one tablet of allergy pill a day.

His allergies are some manageable. You should take her to Vet for detailed diagnosis. Good Luck.

Ours did this also but not so often now. Vet said nothing to worry about. It is a scary sound. If he smells around in the grass during pollen season he will do it again.
