The groomer accidently cut off my cotons eye lashes.

She trimmed his hair and took off the lashes on top. He still has the long lashes on the side of his eyes. How long will it take to grow back

Dog's Eyelashes cut off causes I infection and sensitivity to sun. NEW
by: Anonymous

Left my Yorkie with a trusted "friend" for 8 days. After returning I discovered that the dog was shying away from the sun. Upon further inspection I was shocked to discover that the caretaker had cut off his eye lashes. THis was two weeks ago. NOw he has an infection in his left eye. WHat can I do about this?

Top hair NEW

It can be trimmed but then must be kept up or it goes in their eyes. If you keep it longer you can use the tiny rubber bands to tie back out of the eyes or part in middle. With the hair long in the front it helps them see better in the sunny months but in the house keep tied back out of eyes. They have suck beautiful eyes.

The groomer cut the hair between his eyes too. Shouldn't that hair be long and then it will lay flat??? I think that's how his eye lashes got cut

Coton hair NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

Get your self a good pair of blunt scissors, cut vertically on mats & gently comb out daily. If your life style is busy get a puppy cut or trim evenly & keep hair short. Puppy coat is a nightmare. It mats alot. It can honestly send you into frustration. You can only comb so long since puppys aren't good at laying to long. If you know you will really pull his hair getting it out cut it out.

You want them to learn to like it you will be doing it daily the rest of their lives. You wait a week their r more.

They will blow the puppy coat so it's a good time to practice what works for you. You can Bing or Google videos to watch to help. It will get better but they r a breed that requires above normal grooming.

Jonah was around 8 mos when he blew his puppy coat. As far as their face they need it washed frequently. If you give your dog yogurt treats get ready to take the washcloth to their belly & inside legs. They lick the hair & it gets stuck together.

Their is no magic answer or product to a Coton coat except daily mat checks & grooming. They r wonderful dogs but it is a constant upkeep. Teeth brushing should be started young bc they inherited the Maltese teeth.

I will say one positive about the coat. If you live through the puppy coat everything else is uphill. LOL

Eye lashes grew back! NEW
by: Reenie

At 3 months I took my puppy CoCo for a face wash as to pink building up under his eyes. When I returned to the groomer he didn't look like a Coton. His whiskers were all shaven off, his face & eye hairs and his eye lashes. For a month he looked like a strange geek.

The good news is Everything grew back as white and as soft as before. His eye lashes are longer than ever.

My current concern is his leg hair has recently matted. Can I comb this out or must it be shaven? Is it safe to shave this close to the skin without injury?

If I cut his puppy hair short, will it grow back as white and as soft and fluffy as it is now? I cut his air above his eyes and it looks cute and stark white healthy.

Do we trim the whiskers or are they to be left alone?

Any feedback appreciated cause I got to do something soon. The groomers don't have much experience with Coton's.

Thanks.

cut eyelashes NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

Jonah hair grows about 1/2" a month since I groom him myself but I really don't know about the lashes. The only comment I have thou is why was she cutting that close to the top of the eye. Even if you trim the top shorter there would never be any reason to cut that close to the top of the eye.

I do think they will grow back like ours, I think their like the whiskers if you accidentally pull one out while keeping the face hair unmatted they grow back.

Sorry that happened to your Coton. I've never heard of any breed you would even cut the lashes.

re: lashes NEW

OMG! How horrible. I had a groomer who cut my dogs back end down to about 2 inches. It was 8 inches long and I asked her to cut 1/4 of an inch to even it out. I was so upset at that so I can guess how you felt. She left his front part long and cut the back. Looked funny but it grew back ok. I have a really nice groomer now but I am upset about the lashes. They were so long. I know it wasn't on purpose but I wish she would have been more careful when she trimmed his face.

eyelashes NEW
by: Iris

I'm not sure if it applies to all Cotons but my dog's eyelashes never came back as beautiful or long as they were as a puppy after a groomer shaved him naked because he had matts and she was not about to take time to remove them ,she chose to cut everything off, including his eyelashes. He was try colored and after that grooming his hair grew back all white. If I hadn't been right there in the other room of the grooming shop I never would have believed it was my dog. I didn't recognize him and my poor little guy was traumatized. Me too.
