Is the Coton de Tulear a good Apartment Dweller?

(USA)

I was originally going to get a Jack Russell Terrier but was told that it wasn't a good Apartment Dweller. Then I came across the Coton de Tulear. Beautiful breed and met my standards:

Coat: Must be able to have a long coat due to me going to college as a Dog Groomer
check!Size: Between 4-15 pounds

Yeah. That's it. I have a couple breeders that I'm looking at. If you want me to share, I will

So ..... Do Coton De Tulears make good apartment Dwellers?

*Please note that I will not be moving out for 3 years*

Thank you everyone! Another question I have .... Coton De Tulears are quite expensive and I know that because of their breed. I have a few breeders in mind, if you guys would mind helping me chose one?

Coton de Tulear's Apartment Dogs
by: Cathy

The answer is yes, I live in a two story home but Jasmine would adapt well if we lived in an apartment. When she first came to live with me, she always asked to go out side to do her business. But this past winter I started to "potty" pad train her and now she will only go on the pad. She stayed with my brothers family for two nights and my niece said she took her out with their dogs, and she refused to go to the bathroom. Once in the house ran to the pad and went. She now comes looking for me and lets me know when she has gone to the bathroom so she gets her reward!

I live in an apartment with my 4 year old Coton de Tulear, Lucy. I make sure she gets plenty of walks outside and plenty of attention inside - and she's just thriving. As long as you're prepared to spend quality time with this breed, they don't care if you're in a small apartment or a large mansion. Good luck!

apartment is great!
by: Anonymous

Hi, I live in an apartment with my Coton and he does just fine. As long as you take it on daily walks you should be ok. They aren't as high energy as a terrier. Occasionally, I take my Coton to a friend's yard so he can have freedom to run but now that he's older, he'd rather just lay in the grass and sunbathe!

coton's are great for any environment.

Take a look at this (from Dogs 101, on the Coton): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6wf7SN8o50&NR=1

(btw, who ever told you about jack russel is very sadly mistaken. Jack russels are extreemly high strung. They say there is a special place in heaven for Jack Russel owners...)

You'll be extreemly please with the Coton. Best dog i ever had!
