I am concerned that my New Coton will slip out of his collar whilst out walking.

dog collars
by: Iris Miller

I used a harness with Tuffy when he was very small, and switched to a collar for training later on. I use the recommended rule of measure, "make sure two fingers slide easily under the collar" to be sure it is not too tight or too loose. I check this measurement frequently, especially right after grooming, less hair, tighten the collar up (but still two finger rule). Most important also (from his training is to teach him to heel and sit, and use a short leash so he doesn't have a lot of lead to pull away from you.
My dog also has an implanted I.D., just in case!

Collar Caution
by: Gale

I personally wouldn't recommend a half check collar (especially if your new Coton is a puppy). I always advise on the side of caution and there are just too many instances of dog injuries from using choke chains and half check collars because they either don't fit properly or they snapped open. These collars are usually best left for larger dog breeds.
