How long should I feed puppy food?

I was told for our Golden Retriever 6 months and now I am wondering what to do for our new puppy a Coton? Is it 6 months too? or is that for a large breed? I always thought a year until my vet said 6 month for the golden. He was getting over weight. Anyway this is my first small breed dog. Any help would be great!

We asked our vet this same question. She said to continue the small breed puppy food til she’s between 12-18 months. She’s 14 months and I’m ordering her last bag of puppy food and a bag of what she’ll graduate in to.we’ll continue some fresh food such as blueberries, strawberries and bananas.

You should feed a minimum of 6 months If you do not want so big of dog, Some of 5 star puppy food has a lot calories, and they will make puppy to be too big.

I've always learned 1yr for all dogs. Even when u read the food instructions must say a yr b/c of puppy growth for bones. I guess check w/the food your using & follow instructions.
