How can I get my Coton to come inside when I call?

How do I get my coton named Zoey to come back inside when I call her in? She will run half way to the door then she just stops and stands there and looks at me.

Tuffy will always respond to commands for treats. I notice he is more responsive to "come on let's go" because he knows "go" means we are leaving. What works really great is "chicken!!!" lol

I agree with Vicky, getting your Coton to come when you call (EVERY TIME) is one of the most important things you can teach her. As Vicky says, if you make sure there's always something good for her when she comes she'll eventually make the connection that come equals happy. And of course the opposite is true; never punish or yell or take away a toy when she does come or she'll associate come with unhappy. Just practice a few minutes every day and she'll get it. If the doorway is an issue for her, start practicing the command somewhere else until she masters it and then move to the door. Patience is key. Good luck and let us know how she does.

Try every time u call her & she comes treat. When u are standing in the doorway turn around & go inside & see if she will follow. Treat.

Make yourself fun & exciting so she wants to see where u are going & runs to find u. Treat. To teach a dog to come is the best thing u can do which might save their life someday.

Put a long lead on her & call her to u. Make yourself exciting. Pull her to u slowly. Treat, treat,treat. Use the word COME only when u really mean it & can follow through. All the other times use another word like lets go.

The same thing with the word STAY. If ur hands are full & u cannot follow thru use the word wait.

The two best tricks a dog should know is come & stay. Use the old trick of when u give a command say it with a smile on ur face & it will always sound happy.

Good luck Coton's are wonderfully fast learners. Little pieces of hotdog work great starting out. Slice off a piece & cut into 4's. This way multiple treats do not get stuck in there throat & u get bang for ur buck.
