Coton de Tulear is peeing in the house

We have had our Coton de Tulear for 10 months and he was house trained very fast. He has just recently decided to start using one of the rooms in our house to go to the bathroom. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why he is doing this and how do we fix this?

We have the smae problem
by: Anonymous

Wilson is 4 months old and knows how to go potty outside. He has had treats outside, I have taken him out every 15 minutes. He knows how to sit, stay and many tricks. He will spend time outside playing, going potty and the MINUTE we take him inside..he pees. He will pee at every door EVEN IF THE DOORS are open!! We have a bell for him to ring (he loves to ring the bell so that you will open the door and play with him) Is he confused??? We are going nuts!! I am going to hav ethe carpets cleaned and the tile cleaned soon. I hope that gets rid of the smell and he will stop!!

How did I avoid the bathroom in the room
by: Karline

Hi, I live in an apartment and put a diaper on the carpet where she wore as "bathroom ", she got used to the carpet and the day I was pulling the rug to the cleaners and it now is there. Hugs

peeing

LOL! I have had the reverse problem with Tuffy, He had been UN-trained from using the pee pads. Having been injured and also homebound by being snowed in for months, I brought the pads back into the house, put them right at the door we go out, and tried everything to get him to go potty in the house on his pads again.
Get this, after the very last drop of snow melted and the daffodils popped out of the ground, Tuffy made pee, * and even once a poop) on the pee pad! Don't anyone tell me this dog? is not human.
LOL

P.S. When we moved into our present home the people before us had dogs, and Tuffy has peed on the spot where those dogs peed.
I have cleaned those areas repeatedly, and really watch him if he goes near the areas, and if he sniffs it I tell him no and chase him away from the area. So far, it's okay.

Might there be another new "pet" in the house? Has there been another animal recently in the house?

Checking with your vet to make sure there is no medical problem for the peeing is a good idea. Eliminating any medical problem then tackle the behavior. If he is peeing in the same place in the same room, the first suggestion would be to deny him/her access to that room. First clean the area using a black light to darken room and show the spot and then clean with an enzyme eater to eliminate odor. Keep the dog with you at all times or put him into a crate or small area when he can't be watched. Give him a key phrase when you take him outside to potty "go potty" or "do your business" and be consistenct. Good luck!

Check for bladder infection
by: Sevi

Hi,
It's good to go for a visit to the vet as there might be an infection that needs to be treated.
Check also his "private" area for any unusual spots etc.
Good luck and all the best!

HAVE YOU CHECKED WITH THE VET? PERHAPS IT IS A MEDICAL THING.
MY COTON WAS SO HARD TO HOUSE TRAIN AND NOT UNTIL SHE WAS ABOUT A YEAR OLD THAT SHE FINALLY "GOT IT". GOOD LUCK..
