I missed last month’s newsletter - I’ve been doing a bit of traveling. Can you believe it’s almost June already? And That means it’s just about time to celebrate one of my favorite types of humans: Coton dads!.

Celebrating Coton Dads

Whether he's the guy sneaking treats under the table, patiently brushing out tangles, or making the morning walk the best part of the day, a Coton dad plays a special role. These are the men who might have once said “no dogs on the couch” but are now cuddled up under a Coton blanket watching TV.

This month, we’re honoring all the Coton dads, grandpas, partners, brothers, sons, neighbors - anyone who has shown up with love, patience, and belly rubs.

Let’s celebrate their big hearts, quiet gestures, and unconditional love. Cotons may be small, but the bond they share with their dads is anything but.

We see you, Coton Dads. Happy (almost) Father’s Day!

When Cotons are afraid of men

Not every Coton is a fan of the men in their life — at least not right away. We recently heard from Sophia, who’s heartbroken because her sweet Coton, Zoey, is fearful and not warming up to her new boyfriend.

Unfortunately, this isn’t uncommon. When puppies aren’t socialized around men early on, it can lead to fear or anxiety later. I saw this firsthand with my Coton, Luc - even familiar men made him uneasy.

But with time, trust-building, and patience, we were able to reprogram Luc’s fear into love. It was a slow journey, but one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a dog mom.
