Will my Coton de Tulear puppy develop black eye rims?

by Marco
(Italy)

Hi, I just bought an 8 week Coton de Tulear puppy. She is really cute, the only thing is that the eye rims are pink and not black. The breeder has told me that the dog will develop the black eye rims in 7/8 months. Is that true? Or is it just a way to get away with the problem now? Is there anything we can do to help her develop the black eye rims? Will she ever develop them at all? Thanks

update
by: Marco

Quick update: my Coton is now almost 7 months and has developed eye rims for say 50% on both eyes from basically no rim at all when she was 2 months old. it is interesting to see it change slowly but it is happening. The breeder sais that from his experience Cotons can take up to 2 years to stabilize on eye rims.

I must say that with that "pinky" look in her eyes she looks even cuter than normal, she looks "puppier" , we're all in love no matter what, but it's funny how these things do happen, her father, mother, grandfather and so forth were all complete. I must say though, that she is the the sweetest dogs I ever had, she's a real angel.

Eye Rims

Usually, if they have no eye rims by this time, they don't develop them. If they have partial eye rims, I have seen them finish as late as 3 years. But you have a cute puppy, so enjoy her. I can't imagine a breeder predicting something they really don't know.

You are quite right actually...simple curiosity, that's all! We're all deeply in love with her already.

why?

Why is this such an important issue? I don't get it.
Color of eye rims?

Eye Rims
by: AndreaB

Izzy, my coton, has black eye rims on top of both eyes and the outer half of the bottoms. I got her at 15 weeks and she is 10 months now and they have not changed. I think she is cute just the way she is.
