What's best way to handle snapping Coton de Tulear?

I just got a 6 month old coton de tulear. He was shipped to me. I introduced him to my daughter's 5 year old Labrador and he snapped at his nose. The next day I took him to the Vet to have him physically checked out and he growled at another little dog. Later that day I had him meet my friends' Havanese and he snapped in his face too.

I am so worried I bought a snapping dog. I called the breeder and she said he never did this before. I don't know what to believe. Do you think the dog is fearful to his new life and surroundings or just a shy biting dog. He is so sweet and getting used to me and my family, I am just so worried about the snapping at dogs.

social issues and fear aggression
by: Iris Miller

Tuffy went to puppy school and was afraid of the other dogs in his class, on the leash. he also is very protective of me, but off the leash he mainly wants to play but is mostly afraid of the other dogs. going for walks he went berserk if another dog came by. I hired a dog trainer, for a couple of sessions, who was like the dog whisperer, she trained me to be more assertive and keep the dog on a short leash If he became aggressive toward other walkers or dogs and I I was instructed to make him sit to that energy and also to keep up the pace and keep walking, not to stop or hesitate, The dog wants to please the master and will follow your commands, If the human is inconsistent with training and fearful of other dogs your dog picks up on it and thinks it has to be in control and is never sure of what is expected of him.
TO MY OWN SWEET DOG, WHO ALSO GROWLS WHEN VISITORS LEAVE,I'M SORRY TUFFY, I HAVE BEEN GUILTY AND SLACKED OFF AS PACK LEADER,IT IS MY FAULT YOU ARE A FEARFUL DOG.
My 2011 New Year resolution to you is for mom to sign up for more dog training classes and find some safe places for you to play and interact with other dogs, I love you Tuffy.
