Looking to expand your ways to go green?

Is your White Coton de Tulear a Green dog?

Are you ready to extend the ways to go green into your pet’s world? You recycle, use green grocery bags, buy energy efficient appliances and light bulbs, eat organic produce, and you even carpool.

You want your dog to be a good citizen of this earth too. What can you and your pets do to be a part of the Go Green Movement? You can start with small gradual steps.

9 Ways to Go Green Gradually for your Pets:

  • Spay and neuter your pet to put an end to the millions of homeless animals going into shelters or being euthanized every year.

  • Choose all natural dog foods without fillers and preservatives. Look for meat and poultry raised humanely without growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticides or herbicides. Stay away from commercial foods that contain processed grains that your pets cannot digest.

    • Unfortunately since the pet food industry does not get regulated like the people food industry, it is left to the pet owner to do homework and make the right choices. Just because a dog food label claims to be organic or natural, does not mean that it meets “green” standards. If the pet food is not suitable for human consumption; you shouldn’t feed it to your pets.

    • If you want a 100% guarantee that your pet is getting organic healthy food, you have to cook it yourself or become very well educated on food labels.

  • Proper waste disposal is important to keep the environment clean and beautiful. If not disposed of properly, waste can contaminate the water supply and cause health risks. Use biodegradable doggy cleanup bags. (Try poopbags.com)

  • Choose earth friendly flea treatments that don’t contain pesticides which can potentially cause a danger to your pets. Check greenpaws.org for a comprehensive list of flea products and the chemicals they contain.

  • Choose natural organic grooming supplies. Find biodegradable, organic shampoos and other grooming products that are natural without harmful ingredients.

  • Look for pet products made from recycled material when possible. It’s getting easier and easier to find earth friendly bedding, toys, and collars.

  • Adopt your next pet from a shelter to avoid over breeding, unhealthy pets, and bad living conditions – not to mention the millions of dogs and cats that have to be euthanized each year due to overpopulation.

  • Use natural or organic cleaning products.
