Questions I can't find answers to

(australia)

Thank you for assisting me by answering my questions.

First Question: At what stage of a puppy do you know what colour it will be. For example: if they are white at two weeks with no spots of colour obvious in photos, does that mean they will stay pure white?
Second Question: Is $5000 Australian dollars reasonable for a rare breed?
Third Question: if you pay $5000 is it right that the breeder requires it too be desexed before you take it home?
Forth Question: Is it true that the Coton breed can't cope being on its own if you work during the day?

Thank you NEW
by: Leigh

Thank you for your great advice. The breeder is not giving a choice of not desexing so early so
I'm thinking I should not purchase the dog. My research has indicated it is not healthy to desex a puppy before full growth and hormones have established. For this reason alone I will have to wait to buy a Coton for a few years as more breeders establish themselves with different views. I'm still thinking as I really wanted one though. Also $5000 is quiet expensive. Great advice too about the colours. Thank you Leigh.

Separation anxiety NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi

Coton needs a full time mom or dad. I can only leave him alone for less than 6 hrs sometime. If he has to be alone for more 6 hrs, he goes to a sitter. They are not doing well alone.

Good luck

how much should you pay to adopt a coton NEW
by: Anonymous

Hello,

I hope it will help you out a bit.

1. My dogs are pure white. When they are new born, they had a bit of beige color on tip of ears and a back of head and neck. Beige color has gotten lighter and lighter.
If the color is not brown or black, most likely they will be pure white dog.

2. In US, if you adopt a puppy from good breeder such as test the parents for any health problems and have good pedigree of both parents, it will cost you plus $3000 and no breeding right (the puppy will be companion). You will have a limited AKC register. This means, if you have litter from the dog, you cannot register the puppies. It cost me more than $3000 to adopt my puppy. It is worth it. If you want the breeding right, the puppy will cost you more than $5000.

3. In US, you will sign a contract to spay or neuter the puppy in a year if you are adopting a compaion puppy. You should not spay or neuter the dog if they are younger than 6 months.

Please find a good breeder perform health testing on both parents before breed the dog. Make sure to get the record (if the breeder is good, he or she will provide you the information upfront.

Good luck with your coton search. Cotons are great.
