Pulling on leash

I have a 5 month old Coton and he is a delight but dreadful on the lead. He pulls so much I think he will choke. He loses interest in treats if I try to engage his interest to walk and heel with me. The outside world is an amazing adventure for him and he is interested in everyone and everything. Please help x

helpful tip for walking on a lead NEW
by: Mary

When training your puppy to walk on a lead, instead of breaking your back leaning over, get paint stir stick long enough for a 5 gallon bucket, smear the bottom with soft cheese, or something else your puppy loves, hold it in your left hand along with the lead along your leg, (treat side facing puppy) and the puppy will follow the treat. Stand up straight and off you go! Worked like a charm with Max.

leash pulling NEW
by: sherry cotton candie

He is young yet but when my girl was little I was told to make her stop each time she started pulling. It seemed to frustrate her at first but she finally caught on. (not saying she still doesn't at times if something catches her interest) Just stop and make him be still. Then when calm start out again. Hope this helps you.

You did not say but hope you are using a harness NOT just a collar. They can have damage to vocal cords if pulled to much.

Good Luck to you and your puppy.

Walking NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

He's a little young to learn heel. When walking give ur self time to when he starts pulling stop until leash looses then start. Remember walks should be short 2-3 times a day. Treats r hard when walking b/c if their dry he will start choking w/o water. Take a slice is hotdog & cut into 8-10 pcs just a taste & greasy enough to slide but I really would use patient's & consistency.

Go to youtube.com/ZakGeorge & u will find free videos to help you in training

Leash NEW

When he starts pulling turn around and walk the other way. Keep doing that, just keep turning around and walk the other way with him on the leash. Do this for a week and he should start to walk on the leash without pulling. Worked for my dog. Good luck.
