Peeing when excited

by Sharon
(Michigan)

My pooch, Jasmine, always has a little bit of pee come out when somebody comes into the house. She is so excited to see my son (he lives with me) or his girlfriend come through the door she will piddle on the floor or couch and this is even after I have just taken her out for a potty break. Her tail is going a mile a minute. She is 7 months old.

She is just so happy to greet anyone who is coming through the door. If it was a robber, she would probably pee on him and then lick him to death. Even when she hears a car in the driveway she starts growling, barking and then going "happy dance" crazy. Hope this is just a puppy thing. Does anyone have a puppy that does this?

My Coton is 6 months old and she does the exact same thing. It's so frustrating when you have carpet throughout. Any suggestions?

Jasmine the Terror NEW
by: Anonymous

Thanks everyone. Jasmine does not piddle when I come in. Usually my grown son, who lives here, or his girlfriend, who does not. I try to grab her up, rub her belly to calm her down, but she still pees. Hope she outgrows this one soon. Now she keeps biting the bottom of my PJ's or pants. Not ripping but pulling on them. If she rips my good pants, she will be in serious doggie detention. Likes to nip at my slippers to the point of trying to stick her head in them to get them off my feet so she can take them away and chew on them. She does not touch shoes. Only my slippers. But she has almost tripped me a few times pulling on my pants and slippers. She needs to knock this off. Anyone have this problem?

Spraying.. NEW
by: Margo

Hi Sharon.. Jasmine sounds like the female version of my Beauregarde who is also 7 months old. The spraying when company comes seems to be tapering off somewhat but I try to take him outside before someone comes in the door. Like you, I hope this is a "puppy thing" he will outgrow (when?!?). Beau's pretty quiet but, also like Jasmine, he woofs & growls & barks when anyone pulls into the driveway. That started about 2 months ago. I look forward to comparing notes as our babies grow and would like to know from others if the spraying is just a phase.

peeing when excited NEW

To me Jasmine sounds pretty normal. My little girl always did the same, even now at 3 years old she gets so hyper that first thing they have to be taken outside. On occasion she will still dribble on the way. She also used to love guests but have noticed as she is aging she is not quite as friendly (unless they bring a dog).

I think as they get older they become more territorial and protective. Enjoy her -- cotons are just such wonderful pets.

Pee NEW

Try when any of you come home to ignore her until she settles down. Sometimes it may take 1/2 hr. Once u know shes settled GO find her w/a treat & say hello.

One plus about this is when you carry in groceries etc she will learn to not jump around where they may get stepped on when they hit our blind spot & we step on them.

No hello, no eye contact, nothing. But please always do go find them or call them to you to greet so they know they have done a good behavior.

Also she is really young & really does not have full control over kidneys yet. This behavior of waiting to b greeted will help when guests come also. (-:
