Opinions Please - What's My Breed?

by Jenny

Help, what's my breed?

Vana was rescued on the hwy 3 months ago and we are trying to determine her breed. Breeds that have been suggested: Havanese, Maltese, Coton de Tulear, havamalt, maltipoo, cotonese even shi-poo-

I have miniature schnauzers and don't know much about the other breeds except what I have learned from gathering info. Please tell me more about your breed. DNA results came in as: M. Poodle Mix/Portuguese Water Dog Mix might make up the mix: American Eskimo Dog, Coton de Tulear, Dachshund, Silky Terrier ,Chihuahua.

Results are being reanalyzed Porties can be 65lbs! The are re-checking the coton marker to see if the wrong family tree was followed by the computers- they do not have any cotons listed in their gallery?

Tell me what you think please:
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=104575&id=1448237825&l=8d523743b2 What breed am I: Desctiption of Havana White: about 10 inches height/ about 14 inches long- body like Falcor- Dragon Dog from Never Ending story longer than tall weight- when rescued 7.12lbs , now 9.3 lbs eyes- not completely round like a bichon frise, dark rims, wide set ears -triangular, high set, dropped, thin leathers coat-white with champage, golden color tail and rim of ears, texture- wavy, soft ( groomer said cottony), airy, fine, not a dense or double coat, not curly- brushed out hair is similar to my schnauzers combed out undercoat in texture. Tail- low set tip up when relaxed, feathered over back when excited or happy. bite- scissor bite- thin black lips likes to walk on her hind legs and jump, has a springy, bouncy gait, very vocal when playing grunts and growls almost as if talking- we say she is like a little bear cub, loves to be held , up in your lap, separation anxiety, hates the cold( but that may be just because she was rescued from the cold- it got down to 26 the night my husband found her)

I am trying to grow her hair out so I am trying to find out how best to take care of it, Thanks, Jenny

I think Vanabanana is at LEAST part Coton!
by: Julia

Hello,

Your dog is beautiful =-) It horrifies me that people could leave behind perfect animals like this one, and you are an angel for saving her.

The funniest part of your description, and the part that I connected with the quickest, is that she looks like "Falcor- Dragon Dog from Never Ending story, longer than [she is] tall," because when my Coton's facial hair is especially grown out and he has a big beard, that's what my brother and I always say he looks like!!

I think her nose and mouth look a little Maltese-ish, but other than that, the tail is spot on, the fur looks right, and the ears look the same as Frankie's, plus the common personality traits, the way she "smiles..." She really reminds me a lot of my dog.

Even if you don't find out the "truth," the most important thing is that you saved her and that you have given her an amazing life. I'm sure she has given that happiness right back (if she's part Coton like I think she is, then there's a 105% chance of returned happiness)

=-)

Definitely Coton within
by: Dee

I was reading your FB page (the link you provided), and all of the traits are definitely coton! I don't think you could have described my Spanky any better! Springy gait, grunts and growls while playing, sitting on my lap, hind legs, being held... that is my baby to a T and he is a full Coton. She sure looks and acts like a coton so i would think she does have some in her.

Breed..
by: Michelle

Vana looks like my dog Marie Antoinette. Marie is a Cotonese. Her Mother full Coton de Tulear, her father full Maltese.

Here is a link to pictures of Marie so you may compare...http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/?set=a.10150242972263777.313087.510333776&l=281ffc6721

what kind of dog
by: Diane

Jenny- any time you do a DNA on a dog you are going to get all kinds of breeds mixed in- this is true on mixed breeds. It sounds like a Havanese mix. Can you try and attach a picture again? I own a Malagasy Coton and he is pure white with gray/champaign color in the long hair on the ears only. His hair feels like cotton and looks like it and is thick. Again- try to attach a picture for all of us to see. No matter what she is love her and give her a good home. Have her spayed and shots up to date. I live in FL and there are dogs being dropped on the interstate and the time- if I ever got my hands on the owners I could not be held responsible for what I would do!
