Need advice for my Pomeranian Chihuaua with diarrhea

by Esther
(Marysville)

I gave my dog chicken skin, cooked of course, and that made her sick. What do I do? Can I give her Pepto Bismol. Is it bad to give a dog Benadryl? Somebody told me to give it to her for itching. Anybody help please

pom Chihuaha chicken fat
by: Iris

Not a good idea to give your dog anything with fat on it.My sister has a chihuaha (sp?) who got into her grandson's snacks, ate a bag of greasy potato chips and who knows what else, but the poor pup got very sick, the Vet said she had an inflammation of the pituitary gland, a very dangerous illness. I personally would just make sure my dog is drinking water , just like a person, they should not get dehydrated from diarreah, and let them sleep it off until they feel better. A dog can go for a long time without food, so it will be better off without when it is sick.
Always best to check with your Vet.
best wishes for a speedy recovery for you pup.
love,
Iris

remedy
by: Anonymous

My Vet told me to give my dog a little bit of boiled chicken breast (no skin at all) with white rice mixed in. I've also heard that a small amount of pureed pumpkin helps (not the sweetened kind you use for pie) - just a teaspoon or so.

As for itching, it seems you need to find out the cause of the itching before you start giving medicine. Itching can be caused by all kinds of things (allergies, insect bites, fleas, etc) so it's better to eliminate the cause instead of just treating the symptoms.

Hope you dog feels better soon!

Pomeranian Chicuaua
by: Joyce

Benedryl is usually for allergies. You need to speak to your vet regarding how much to administer depending on weight. I give my boy JR it for his itching. Joyce
