Urinitaing

Thanks for the advice. Louie has been checked by a vet and nothing physically wrong. Probably physcological and mostly spoiled!!! I'll try giving him more attention during the day. He sleeps with me , therefore has the comfort of cuddling. Seems owner induced problem!!!!! He is such a joy and too smart for me not to be able to correct this problem.

TO BETTY
by: SHERRY - COTTON

MY GIRL IS 13 MONTHS AND WE STILL TAKE HER OUTSIDE ABOUT EVERY 2-3 HOURS. ALMOST ALWAYS SHE WILL DO HER THING.
SHE HAS WENT FROM 8-8:30 AT NIGHT UNTIL 7 IN THE MORNING
WITHOUT BEING OUT. (WE HAVE A PEE PAD FOR HER BUT SHE NO LONGER USES IT)

I THINK LIKE US, WE JUST GO MORE IN THE DAYTIME THAN THRU THE NIGHT. I WOULD MENTION IT TO THE VET AND SEE, BUT I AM THINKING IF SHE CAN WAIT THRU THE NIGHT THEN THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU ARE NOT THERE TO LET HER OUT??

Seems if he can go all night, that it's probably not a physical issue. But, you should probably check with a Vet to make sure there's no medical reason. Every 2 hrs is definitely not "normal" for an adult dog.

out every 2
by: Mike

It may simply be that they drink water during the day and don't at night. I think I've heard that a dog should go out 10 or 15 minutes after drinking water. Now, even if that's right, the next question is "why are they drinking so much water?" Salty diet? Hot outside? Very active?

One other possibility is that the dog knows that will definitely get your attention. Unfortunately, you still have to play along. You need your dog to know you're going to open the door for them whenever they want to go--that's the deal you make with them to save your carpet. But maybe some dogs go there knowing you're coming to interact. Although, I can't say for sure. You could try randomly fussing over them throughout the day and see if the trips outside become fewer and farther between.
