She is 9 weeks old and it wouldn't be for long like 5 mins. I want to know is it safe?

Just dress for it! NEW
by: Elaine

I live in northern Canada, I'm not a Coton owner yet, but my pup will be born any day now! I do care for my friend's Coton several times a year (which is what led me to get my own! ) She won't use puppy pads, never would, she will only go outside, which where I live can be -50 or colder! My friend got the puppy in January 4 years ago so even as a pup she went out in frigid temperatures, she loves it as long as it isn't windy, on windy days she'll just take care of business then run back in. Booties and a good quality warm coat with a hood for her little ears works perfectly to keep her warm. Her coat is styled after the Canada Goose expedition coats and she looks like an adorable polar explorer in it! :)

Going out in the cold NEW
by: Debbie

I took Bijou out when he was 10 weeks old. We live in Maine so it gets really cold here too. I always put a heavy sweater on him or his parka. I only take him out if the sun is out and it is not windy. He loves to play in the snow, but within 20 min he starts shivering so we go in right away. They don't have an undercoat so they will get cold easily. Bijou goes out with my Samoyed who wants to stay out there all day long. Another thing you need to think of is if you are in a rural area when they are so small is staying close by so no hawk or large predictor sweeps down on him. Enjoy your baby!

Cold outside NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

I do concur that dogs love to play in the snow but we r talking 9 weeks, which now is possibly 10 wks. Basically since the puppy has not been fully vaccinated & still very young it may be a risk not worth taking.

Until a dog is fully vaccinated weather it's cold or warm should not be in an environment other dogs may have been. We never really know weather another person has vaccinated their dogs & since most disease is spread through when a dog goes to the bathroom you never know where ur puppies nose will end up.

It's cold outside! NEW
by: Sherry & Cinderella

We live in Alaska, so we know cold! Cindy loves the cold! She wants to go out frequently , sometimes for nothing more than to go put her face in the snow! She has 2 toy poodle sisters who go out but don't really care for the cold. Cindy loves it. Even at -21 degrees. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking your Coton puppy outside for short periods of time. Just don't let your pup stay out too long, if you're still not sure, put a sweater or coat on her/him. Enjoy your new puppy!
