My fifteen year old coton NEW
by: Anonymous

I have a 15 year old coton who has been with me from ages 7 to 22. He’s still really spritely! He does have some health issues now as he’s getting old (kidney disease, hip dysplasia, bad teeth) but he’s generally still got a lot of energy and gets around really well. Cotons are the sweetest dogs, he is my bestest friend in the whole world

My Coton died of cancer NEW
by: Roberta

My beautiful Zoe, the love of my life, was the bravest dog I ever had. By the time she was diagnosed with cancer, it had spread to her lungs although it most likely started somewhere in her abdomen. She never acted sick except for a bit of arthritis. She was diagnosed on a Fri & I took her home for the weekend to spoil her with every kind of treat I could think of. With all of this, she never had an accident in the house (I have a doggie door). She died at home early Mon morning & I'm grateful that it happened that way rather than at the vet.

cotons and how long do they live NEW

I am really really sorry for your loss too. We lost our coton in April of this year. He was 15 years, 28 days old. I loved him every single day of his wonderful life. But when he was 12, he developed congestive heart failure from mitral valve disease. He lived a comfortable life for 3 years after that but did have to take a lot of heart pills. He lived twice the amt. of time that our vet predicted. When he died, it was not even from heart disease, which we all thought would be his ultimate end, since there is no cure for heart disease. He could not eat hardly anymore. We did X-ray, ultrasound, blood test. The vet thought it was lymphoma in his small intestine. His gall bladder was like 9 times the size of a normal gall bladder. He was such a kind and gentle dog. He was wonderful.

how long do they live? NEW
by: Iris

When I first learned of the Coton breed I read all I could. It seems about 14 years is average for a healthy dog of this breed.
