Face Hair Gone

My relative decided this morning to cut my dog's hair completely around her muzzle and cut the longer hair all off of her ears. My cotton has a puppy cut, but she looks like a rat now because of her face. My relative is also uneducated about dogs so she cut the whiskers too. Very, very short, they are right close to my dog's snout. Not to mention my dog was just groomed last week, so she was just becoming adjusted to the last hair trim with her face and whiskers too.

My dog looks awful and I'm super disappointed. Is there anything I can do to help my dog feel better, help her hair grow back faster, or help her whiskers grow back faster? If anyone at all can help It would be really great. Thank you

hair cut NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

I trim Jonah myself & really their hair does grow fast about 1/2 & inch a month just like ours. In a couple months it will b fine.

The only thing you may want to do now is make sure your relative does not know where your scissors are kept (-:

It was sad to read about you sweet dog getting zapped/ Keep the scissor happy relative away from your dog from now on. My dog got very depressed when I left him with a groomer who shaved him practically bald.I was hocked and angry and could hardly look at my dog, he would not look at me because I left him to let that happen to him. they do have feelings and are aware of themselves. before that disaster He had very long flowy tri-colored hair and would stand over the air vent and watch his hair blowing in the reflection of the glass patio doors. It took a long time for his hair to grow back and when it did he was all white.I put his little red fleece jacket on him and he felt more secure and settled down a bit after about a week, but he was still nervous and jumpy and that first trip to a groomer traumatized him forever. I tried several different groomers, even the mobile ones, Tuffy was freaked out every time. I mostly trim his hair now and have stopped bringing him to the groomer for nail trims because she was mean to my dog. I am bringing him to his Vet for that now.Good luck and give your dog extra love during this time especially, while the hair grows back.

I agree with other comments about warning others not to be trimming other people's dogs. guess they meant well.

When cotton was about 9 months old we went on vacation and I didn't keep up with her grooming, ended up taking her to a groomer out of state and she actually shaved her. I did not even recognize my dog when picking her up. I was not happy but it turned out good in the end. she loved it as it was so much cooler and mommy did not bring out the brush and pick at mats daily.

It did grow out in a few months and all was well. Its just such a shock at first. I like the long hair look but it takes alot of time and brushing to keep it perfect.

Enjoy your baby and it will be long again before you know it. I posted a pic of cotton after she was shaved called "baby cotton got shaved". don't know if it is still on the pics and stories column but you could look at it and see how short she was. This was 3 years ago so it may no longer be there........Hope you get used to it----I did after a couple of days.

I know how you feel sort of

Jasper got a super short puppy cut. My sister thought she was doing me a favor but it was just so short. If you look at the story " Jasper has a luxating Patella " that I wrote a couple of months ago. I have pictures of Jasper and his really short cut. It will grow out. Jasper's cut is growing out so fast. Good luck and I agree with the other comments. Even though well meaning the relative should not have taken his grooming needs into her hands unless maybe a bath and come out if she knows what she is doing. In between grooming I wash and blow dry Jasper once a week His face gets cleaned a little more often and sometimes his paws.

don't laugh at your dog!
by: Anonymous

As long as you don't laugh at your dog's new haircut, and give her plenty of praise and attention, she won't notice the bad cut. And, as with humans, bad haircuts do grow out ....

Hair cut

I'm sure that you feel much worse than your dog does. I don't think that dogs really care how they look. Now...about that relative...I would make it crystal clear to her that she was way out of line. You never cut someone else's pet's hair or child's hair.

sorry :(
by: Anonymous

keep her away from the in laws lol...people should know dogs are like our babies..just leave the poor dog alone. so sorry to hear what happened :( all i can say is that my little girl hair grows super fast (i trim her myself at least once a month). Maybe after a couple weeks it will grow out and look more like the puppy cut again?! is the hair on the hair like skin short? or can u fluff it a little?
