Does the Coton de Tulear shed?

I visited a Coton breeder and her dogs are awesome except when I got down to play with them I got a lot of hair all over my clothes. She said that's because she hasn't brushed them in awhile. If I get a Coton should I expect that? I am looking for a dog with little shedding .
Thank you

Doesn't sound right to me.

If the breeder hasn't brushed the pup in awhile there would be matting - not shedding. My Coton does not shed. Must not be pure Coton.

You may want to do more research on this breeder. The fact that she hasn't brushed the pup in a while may be a red flag.

My Coton has never had a problem with shedding - you may find long strands once in a while just like with human hair; but overall, in my experience, I'd consider them to be no shed dogs.

COTON & SHEDDING
by: Anonymous

Trust me, the pure Coton is not a shedder. You may see a few hairs here and there , probably from the undercoat. I chose this breed because I did not want a "shedder" and I am very pleased. Be prepared, however, for a high maintenance dog, as far as brushing. The awesome fur is so lovely, but does matt very easily over time and these matts will have to be cut out or shaved back, if allowed to get too profuse. We have had that experience!
It has been worth it because the Coton is so sweet and lovable , especially loves children. Just know about the maintenance and you will have one beautiful doggie specimen!
