Do tri-color Coton de Tulear puppies lose their coloring as they get older?

by Zoom

I have read all the adorable stories of the Cotons on this site and seen their pics..they are all white.

I know my tri colored Coton de Tulear will dilute, but do you know to what extent the tri colors dilute and over what time period? Do they all end up pure white?

Coton de Tulear
by: Anonymous

Yes, they will eventually fade to all white. My Coton de Tulear had very dark brown on his ears, around his eyes, and on his back. He is 4 now and only has faint light brown color where is dark brown used to be. He is still the most adorable litle boy ever!

My Coton lost his tri colors
by: Iris Miller

I don't know about all Coton's but if you look at the posting and pictures I have added on this website, Tuffy (in the photo was in his blue carrier) at a few months old, had all his colors quite intense. As he grew his hair was long and flowing and very beautiful and similar to a Maltese' coat. Tuffy would stand in front of the a.c. vent and watch his reflection in the glass of the patio door with his hair blowing. When he was a year old his hair became badly matted and he had to be shaved. It was a traumatic experience, his first time with a groomer, and not a happy experience.I was very sad about it, and Tuffy was depressed too. It was a rough time for both of us. The color spots can still be seen in his skin when he is wet after a bath, but since that time his hair grew back all white except for some grey hair blended in on the ears and a few random black hairs, one in his tail, a couple here and there, but his overall appearance is all (very) white. From photos I received from the breeder I know his parents are also all white.I will add another puppy picture of Tuffy with his tri-color coat to the Coton photos page.
