Coton de Tulear puppy eating grass

by Lindsay
(Plymouth)

When I take my coton de tulear puppy out for walks, he always wants to stop and eat grass... Is this normal? What can I do to stop him?

Dog eating grass
by: Anonymous

I have found that every time my dog starts eating grass it's after he's had a rawhide type chew. I guess they irritated his stomach. Maybe it's a coincidence, but he hasn't been eating grass since I stopped the rawhides.

as long as their are no chemicals or pesticides in it i would not be concerned. all thru the years my animals, cats and dogs have sometimes eaten grass and usually will spit it up within an hour.

i have been told they do this when they have an upset stomach, who really knows but they are always ok afterwards.

I agree with Ellie. Avoid chemical treated lawns. Otherwise, as long as your puppy seems to be eating and eliminating normally it shouldn't be a problem. Just consider it a salad!

I have heard they eat grass for one of two reasons: They need the chlorophyll or they need to throw up. Either way, a little grass eating is natural. Just make sure there are no harmful chemicals on the grass.
